Is it possible to tow 3 meter scale gliders into the air by electric

I have been pondering on the same subject, except I want to tow larger gliders also.
There are numerous tow planes to build (as I would build, not arf) and possibly one of the outrunner motors would be worth looking into.
I do know that Dieter at Shredair has mentioned one of the Lehner motors/Reisenhaur(sp?) systems.
Do you have some real money to spend on a system that works?
I am posting on Ezone , see what feedback I will get,

[RCSE] (RCSE) KV Discus(El servo) question

2003-07-10 Thread Easwen6877
Fellow soaring enthusiasts,

I have a Karel Vagenknecht Discus 2B, 4.3M span all molded plane that I just started putting together. The Elevator is operated by a servo made to be placed in the tail. The molded in area for that servo limits the depth of servo used, or it will protrude into the rudder leading edge.
Anyone know what servo they used? Needs to be slightly bigger than the Volz micro-max I wanted to use, but case depth needs to be less.

Eric

Re: [RCSE] (RCSE) KV Discus servo Q.

2003-07-10 Thread Easwen6877

I addapted a Volz. Cut off tabs (don't tell Gordy) glued on new tabs from L stock with black CA. Now servo sits further into tail, no rudder rubbing.

While not as fast as the Vette, the 2000 VW Eurovan can carry almost any plane, plus is a great place to get out of the sun, relax with a brew that the refer is full of, and catch some Z's after a hard day of flying. V6 powered, likes to cruise at 80-90, and still gets great mileage. Unfortunately, 2003 is the last year they will be produced by VW.

[RCSE] [RCSE]Stylus Module: expected lifespan?

2002-05-16 Thread Easwen6877

I Have been having some very strange behavior with my Stylus in the last few
days.

At first I thought it was RFI, but now I am not sure. Airtronics did a
tune up of the TX weeks ago, my Batteries in planes and Tx are in top shape,
but I have lost control of two different planes after flying for about 1 1/2
minutes. One totaled, the other was not.
All of this prompts me to ask..Do Modules have a certain behavior that they
exhibit when (do they)? start going bad. Loss of radio signal by degrees?
Exactly what is the scenario of one that is starting to malfunction?

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

far greater flexing than the steel auto body that the paint was designed

 Cheers All,

It is actually a addative called elastosizer,( not castor oil, which some old
timers used in nitro-cellulose lacquer.) And actually, the new age urathane
auto paints can be flex controlled and are more durable than acrylic
lacquer, and their handeling charastics can be modified for your climate

Five flights on Stratos SL electric, (F27, 20 cells, AUW 130 0z.)
pre-flight for 6th. flight showed problem with elevator (two servos under

found that the output shaft on the motor was moving from left to right
approx. 1/8 inch. Garbage bin.
question..would you put another HS-81 MG (rated 36oz.?) back in this plane,
thinking that it was just a bad servo form the factory, or that these servos
just won't hold up for a plane of this weight, and that Voltz should be put
in(probably the largest servos that will fit would be Volts micro max)

The question reminds me of flying a Blazer last year on our slope not long
after my Fun One was knocked down into the woods by a Goshawk. Upon seeing
this type of Hawk chase me I decided to dive, then go up into a loop. Hawk
followed until he realized he was upside down. At this point he bailed out,
actually turning his head and body away from my plane, now inverted above
him..It was a sight to see.
So I would say, not quite a loop, maybe half a loop.

Last year I was in the final leg of a landing at a rock, stump and

out of nowhere a Goshawk( I think) dropped out of the sky and hit my
wingtip and knocked my Fun One into the canopy of the forest. Quite a

such is my experience with Hawks, or at least one with a grudge..
