RE: [RCSE] AirHogs Aero-Ace/it's Bacus' fault

I've had mine ever since I saw one fly at the E-fest in Champaign, and I flew it in the offices at work, and a friend practically RAN to the store to get his own. They are everything that's been said of them and much MORE. Currently, a number of owners have taken the guts of the plane and put them into jet plane models made of light depron. I've seen a Beech Starship done this way as well. I plan to buy a second one when my first gets too beat-up, and use the guts to make a tiny scale Vought "Flying Flapjack" STOL carrier fighter from WW2.

The planes are so easy and fun to use, they make great introduction to RC for anyone. The guys at work never understood the depth of my RC fanaticism until they got some stick time in the office this week themselves.

I have to report that I've failed. Failed to resist the temptation to buy
the Bacus touted Aero-Ace by AirHogs. I actually found myself scouring the
shelves several times before I found it too! I'm weak.

Quick impressions: It's cute as bugs ear! It's a biplane which always
catches my eye. An adorable little plane that is proving to be very well
constructed and quite fun. With twin motors, great durability, long run
times...

Only problem I can find is the motors have too much up thrust and the
plane pitches up too much under power. I guess that was intentional.

I wish I had the landing gear mod.

Bill,
The Air Hog pitches up because it is tail heavy. Add some weight to the
nose; I used about an inch of a 4-penny nail to get mine to balance.

The landing gear mod, along with the complete system as well as replacement
parts is available from www.aeroacemods.com .

Mine had a nasty left turn both under power and in the glide. Adding weight
to the right wing tip and bending the rudder tab to the right straightened
out the flight path.

My initial flights were outdoors on a mild winter day with only a light
breeze and it kept drifting downwind as it circled to the left. After a
futile effort to get it to fly back to me, I shut the motors off and watched
it continue to circle and rise in a small bubble of warm air. It easily
cleared some high trees and a two-story house. After becoming winded from
chasing it, I finally gave up and stood there laughing as the little bugger
continued to rise. I finally recovered it about a quarter of a mile away. :)

Have fun with your Air Hog,
