[SoaS] FW: Crazy SoaS Idea
Hi All, Semi-techie teacher here (me) has a crazy idea. Mel asked me to send it along for further discussion on the SoaS list. I was hoping to have this be something I could use at a tech fair for teachers next month, but better later than never if it is possible. Caryl DVD costs more, but would work. Thomas Gilliard has been having a few similar ideas and perhaps there's a chance to work together here. The biggest problem I see with this is that the files needed to do it wouldn't fit on a CD - but maybe it could be done on a DVD. If so, that would definitely make a nice project for someone to pick up. --Mel On 03/26/2010 01:29 AM, Caryl Bigenho wrote: Hi Mel, Sebastian and Sean, Here is a crazy mindstorm for you... Re: [SoaS] FW: Crazy SoaS Idea Possible DVD Kit-
I can try to put together the required files on a DVD and then make a .iso of it to upload to Tgillard. So there would be 2 files... One with the SoaS files for the creation of the USB stick and the other to play as a live CD. Am I crazy or what??? I think you would have to burn the sugar.iso files copied from the DVD or dd write the .img files to get a bootable sugar entity. I do not see how to make this a live DVD at this time SUGGESTIONS? ==Exactly what should be included on this DVD?== Possible choices; *-http://download.sugarlabs.org/soas/snapshots/3/soas-3-20100319.iso 454m ( sdz Stable f13 spin with minimal number of applications) *-http://people.sugarlabs.org/Tgillard/soas-3-20100319-2GBUSB-Corrected.img.bz2 440mb (Bernie's stable USB img file for Blueberry with ext3 file structure) *-http://people.sugarlabs.org/Tgillard/ASLO-xo.tar.gz 566m (111application.xo files for drag drop into sugar journal to install them to Sugar) *-http://people.sugarlabs.org/Tgillard/soas-i386-20100324-tests.tar.gz 462m (img file of f13 Nightly composes with liveusb-creator) *-http://download.sugarlabs.org/soas/releases/soas-2-blueberry.iso 380m *-http://download.sugarlabs.org/soas/releases/soas-1-strawberry.iso 380m *-http://download.sugarlabs.org/soas/releases/livecd-iso-to-disk.sh 21.k ( Plus instructions on how to use script) *-http://download.sugarlabs.org/soas/releases/soas-1-boot.iso 8.4m *-http://download.sugarlabs.org/soas/releases/soas-2-boot.iso 14m *-http://download.sugarlabs.org/soas/releases/image-writer-mac 6.8k *-http://download.sugarlabs.org/soas/releases/image-writer 7.9k This is a first cut of things to include. Yeay! Now that's something I can use to install SoaS! I posted a message here a while ago, asking how to install SoaS without Windows. I am glad someone whipped up a way to do this. This USB when booted will have liveusb-creator (with extra command --reset-mbr ) as a sugar application ( large O ) on f3 ring. (or command line in sugar terminal) With the first SoaS stick installed, I should be able to use that to install to second and subsequent sticks. Thanks.
