The tool, which lets users analyzing the web traffic from their promotions, lets users click into a map of where users are interacting with their promotions, and get detailed demographics data--household income, education, net worth, neighborhood data, and more--at the street level. The tool is one of the first publicly shown efforts of a new push by Redland-based GIS leader Esri to work with startups and other technology companies. (More...) http://bit.ly/10Iyh4o Anametrix Plugs Into Microsoft Excel ---- San Diego-based marketing analytics software developer Anametrix has rolled out a new plug-in, which ties its analytics data directly into Microsoft Excel, the firm said Thursday. According to Anametrix, the new software tool embeds its marketing analytics capabilities directly into the spreadsheet program, and allows for bi-directional data exchange between the platforms. Anametrix was founded by former team behind WebSideStory, and is backed by TVC Capital. DTS Ties With RGB Networks ---- Calabasas-based audio processing technology developer DTS has tied with IP video deliver firm RGB Networks, to supply its audio technology into RGB's products, the two said Thursday. The two said that RGB Networks will implement DTS technologies initially in its TransAct Encoder/Transcoder, a device used to distribute high definition audio across consumers' portable devices and set-top boxes. Financial impact of the deal was not announced. The two said that RGB Networks is using DTS in part to meet the legal requirements of the Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation (CALM) Act, to control content loudness particularly with commercials. Belkin Buys Linksys From Cisco ---- Linksys, the Irvine-based manufacturer of network switches, wireless routers, and other products, has just been sold to Playa Vista-based Belkin, bringing the firm's corporate ownership back to Southern California. Belkin said Thursday that it has entered an agreement to acquire Cisco's Home Network Business Unit--which owns the Linksys business and brand, to help bolster its position in the home networking business. Financial terms of the deal were not announced. Linksys had been acquired by Cisco in 2003, when Cisco paid $500M for the company. Webfest Taps Kim Kardashian For Keynote ---- Webfest Global, the annual domain name and online traffic monetization conference run by Oversee.net's DomainSponsor, announced Thursday that celebrity Kim Kardashian will be the conference's keynote speaker. Webfest (formerly known as DomainFest) has managed some fairly high level speakers at its events over the years, including Tony Hsieh of Zappos in 2010; Apple Founder Steve Wozniak in 2009; Bob Parsons of GoDaddy in 2011; and Biz Stone of Twitter in 2012. The conference caters to professionals in the domain name and Internet marketing industry, but also has been actively reaching out to startups in Southern California. That's what Huntington Beach-based AlpineReplay is counting on with its mobile apps which let you capture and share your ski slope experience with friends and others. (More...) http://bit.ly/10UZiHD CircuitHub, With Roots At UCLA, Launches Hub For Hardware Designers ---- A new startup looking to revolutionize the sharing of information on electronic parts for hardware designers, CircuitHub, launched today, looking to bring an open source, collaborative community to the sharing of electronic part libraries. The firm--co-founded and headed by UCLA Visiting Scholar Jon Friedman--has created an online site which lets hardware designers tap into the data sheets, symbols, components, and footprints of electronic components, for free, either by downloading or by connecting a Dropbox account. Friedmam is a PhD from UCLA in Electric Engineering, and who has been a postdoc at both USC and its Information Sciences Institute. As part of its launch, the firm said it has raised a round of funding from a long list of Silicon Valley investors, including Google Ventures, Y Combinator, and angels Paul Buchheit, Matt Cutts, Garry Tan, Alexis Ohanian, Harj Taggar, and others. CircuitHub's component library runs with a variety of popular electronics layout and CAD software programs. Doorbot Hits $250K Crowdfunding Goal ---- Doorbot, the wireless, video-enabled doorbell created by Santa Monica-based Edison Jr., the hardware project and idea startup headed by Jamie Siminoff, has reached its crowdfunding goal of $250,000, according to Edison Jr. The firm said that the device is now headed into manufacturing stage, and is expected to be delivered in July of 2013. Doorbot is the latest hardware project from Siminoff's Edison Jr., which has also been trying to bring its POP Charger to market. Edison Jr's earlier POP Charger project has had a number of ups and downs, with the firm initially deciding to refund the funds raised for the project after Apple rejected the design, to a new decision in December to deliver the product, after Apple changed its mind. The funding came from celebrities Ryan Tedder (One Republic), Jared Leto, and Troy Carter (Lady Gaga's business manager). Gobbler develops a cloud-based service, specifically aimed at musicians, for helping them send files, collaborate with others, and back up their music. The startup--founded by Myke Armstrong and Jacob Fatoorechi--said the app was originally created to better connect people at parties and events, and is now being used by bands and artists. The bootstrapped company's app runs on iOS 4.3 or later, and is free on iTunes.
