The new Model S uses a forward radar and 12 ultrasonic sensors to allow the car to automatically change lanes for a user, and steer away from danger. However, Tesla said the goal of the new hardware and software is not to enable driverless cars, but instead to increase driver comfort and safety. The car was rolled out at the Hawthorne Airport, just a few blocks away from rocket company SpaceX, which is also led by Musk. Vyu Raises $825K ---- Los Angeles-based Vyu, which is developing a personalized, mobile entertainment guide service, said this morning that it has raised $825,000 in a seed funding round. The funding came from Jabbar Internet Group and other investors. The startup, led by Ahmed Nassef. The company says its service helps viewers follow, share and discover TV and video via their mobile devices. Nassef was previously Vice President and Managing Director of Yahoo! Middle East & Africa, and also was head of Maktoob.com. As part of the funding, the company said that it has added former Yahoo! exec Keith Nilsson to its board, and opened up an office in Dubai. http://www.socaltech.com/intelligence/?action=showdeal&id=60589 Velocify Wins eHarmony ---- Los Angeles-based Velocify, which develops cloud-based, sales automation software, has scored a win over at eHarmony. Financial impact of the deal was not announced. Velocify said that eHarmony is using the company's lead management tools for eH+, eHarmony's new premium matchmaking service. Velocify's cloud-based software helps ensure that clients receive quick responses to inquiries, and also helps marketers better prioritize clients and opportunities. Velocify is led by Nick Hedges; the company was previously known as Leads360. Vitesse Expands Distribution ---- Camarillo-based networking IC developer Vitesse Semiconductor said today that it is expanding its North American sales presence, and has added a new distributor, Phoenics Electronics. The company said Phoenics will handle its full portfolio of products. Vitesse is a provider of Ethernet and other high speed networking ICs. eSurface Names New President, CFO ---- Carlsbad-based eSurface Technologies, which develops technology for applying conductive materials to surfaces, said this morning that it has named Michael G. Corrigan as the company's President and CFO. Corrigan replaces Dave Benson in the President role. Benson remains Chairman, and now becomes CEO of the company. Corrigan previously was interim co-CEO of SOnar Entertainment, and also served on the board of Tropicana Entertainment, in addition to serving as an executive at MGM. Snapchat Sees Massive Image Leak, Blames Third Party Apps ---- Venice-based Snapchat is facing another big crisis Friday, as word spread that at least 100,000 compromising, Snapchat photos and videos have been leaked to online hacking sites. Snapchat--in a message to its Twitter followers--blamed the use of third party apps for sending and receiving snaps, which it said violate its terms of use policy. The company said that Snapchat's servers "were never breached and were not the source of these leaks."
