Colorescience Lands $10M For Cosmetics
----
Carlsbad-based Colorescience, the aesthetic medicines business spun
out of SkinMedica when that company was acquired by Allergan, has
raised $10M in a Series A funding round today. The company said the
funding came from its existing investors, which include Split Rock
Partners and Montreux Equity Partners. Both of those companies are
adding executives to its board of directors. Colorscience spun out of
Skinmedica, after SkinMedica was acquired by Allergan in December of
last year. Colorescience is developing mineral-based cosmetics with
SPF protection.

SpaceX Pursues Air Force

Hawthorne-based commercial rocket and spaceship developer SpaceX is
expanding its range of possible customers today, with a deal with the

BlackLine Systems Links With CohnReznick
----
Los Angeles-based financial software developer BlackLine Systems has
tied with accounting, tax, and advisory firm CohnReznick LLP, the
companies aid today. According to the companies, they are in a
strategic alliance, where CohnReznick will provide advisory services
and guidance to CFOS, controllers, and other finance department
executives to support implementation of BlackLine's software.
BlackLine develops financial close software that helps automate what
has been a very manual process for companies. Financial details of the
deal were not disclosed. BlackLine has similar arrangements with other
firms, including Deloitte and KPMG. BlackLine is headed by Therese
Tucker.

DTS Powers Headsets For Turtle Beach
----
Calabasas-based audio processing and enhancement technology developer
DTS announced a win with headset maker Turtle Beach today. According
to DTS, its technology will be used in a select number of Turtle
Beach's new media headsets. Financial impact of the win was not
disclosed. Turtle Beach is using the DTS Headphone:X technology, which
DTS says delivers realistic, multi-dimensional audio for headphones.

Domain Associates Promotes Shah To Partner
----
San Diego-based biotech investment firm Domain Associates announced
this morning that it has promoted Nimesh Shah to Partner at the firm.
Shah has been at the firm since 2006. Shah sits on the boards of Zyga
Technology, Benvenue Medical, Cotera, Miramar Labs, Sequent Medical,
and Twelve (Foundry Newco VII). He also is a board member for the San
Diego Venture Group, and previously served at Cutlass Capital and
Alex. Brown & Sons (now Deutsche Bank).

Surf Air's First Flight Set For Today
----
Santa Monica-based Surf Air, the all-you-can-fly airline service which
is looking to connect Silicon Valley and Silicon Beach, is getting set
to launch its first member flight tomorrow, Wednesday. The first
flight is set to depart Burbank at 10:45am, landing in San Carlos at
noon. Surf Air is hoping to make it easy for venture capitalists,
entrepreneurs, and other executives to make the hop between Los
Angeles and Silicon Valley, on its own fleet of private airplanes. The
inaugural flight comes after Surf Air received FAA clearance for
operation last week. Surf Air also raised new funding to support its
launch into the market. The new investors in Surf Air include Velos
Partners and Base Ventures. Surf Air is led by Wade Eyerly.

ChowNow Raises $1.19M More
----
Los Angeles-based mobile food ordering startup ChowNow has raised
$1.19M more in an ongoing funding round, according to a regulatory
filing by the firm last week. ChowNow is venture backed by Daher
Capital, Double M Partners, GRP Partners, Karlin Ventures and Velos
Partners. The round is targeted at $2M. Chownow lets users order food
via their mobile phone or Facebook. The company is led by Christopher
Webb, and was part of the LaunchpadLA incubator. ChowNow's mobile and
online ordering system revolves around tablet-based software that
makes it easy for restaurants to manage those mobile orders.

CODA Automotive Affiliates File For Bankruptcy
----
Two affiliates of Santa Monica-based CODA Automotive have filed for
bankruptcy, following the electric car maker into bankruptcy
proceedings, according to a report from Reuters. Reuters said both Lio
Energy Systems Holdings and Miles Electric Vehicles are looking to
have their bankruptcy jointly administered with Coda Holding's
bankruptcy. Coda had filed for bankruptcy last month. Miles Electrical
Vehicles was the original name for CODA Automotive. Lio Energy was
Coda's joint venture with Chinese firm Lishen Power Battery to develop
lithium ion batteries for its cars.

Internap's  Los Angeles Data Center Gets LEED Certification
----
Hosting and colocation provider Internap said Tuesday that its Los
Angeles data center has received LEED Gold certification, the green
label for buildings administered by the U.S. Green Building Council
(USGBC). According to Internap, the certification covers buildings
that are designed and constructed with sustainable concepts and
practices, which reduce a building's impact on the environment.
Internap announced its Los Angeles data center in 2011, and opened up
the buildling in September of 2012. Internap said the building
incorporates such features as high-efficiency lighting, automated
lighting controls, air-side economizer cooling controls and
high-efficiency equipment, and also uses renewable electricity for 100
percent of its electrical load. Internap is headquartered in Atlanta.
