[Soekris] 6501-70 compatible SSD and video card
Hi list, Thinking of building a mini desktop with a 6501-70 to use as a low resources X environment (mainly terminal + web browsing on OpenBSD) Do you have any recommendations for both SSD drives and video cards (DVI and/or mini display port)? Cheers, josh ___ Soekris-tech mailing list Soekris-tech@lists.soekris.com http://lists.soekris.com/mailman/listinfo/soekris-tech

Cheers, josh I followed a previous recommendation and purchased a Crucial M500 120GB mSATA Internal Solid State Drive (CT120M500SSD3) and so far so good. I've only had my soekris for about a week now but OpenBSD has been happily running on it without any issues. -- James Turner ___ Soekris-tech mailing list Soekris-tech@lists.soekris.com http://lists.soekris.com/mailman/listinfo/soekris-tech

If you ever have a chance to plug a video card in (that works), please let me know, Cheers, ___ Soekris-tech mailing list Soekris-tech@lists.soekris.com http://lists.soekris.com/mailman/listinfo/soekris-tech

But it had a weird behaviour - on a cold boot it was fine, but the BIOS did not seem to see it after a warm reset. Either doing a reboot in the OS, or using the front panel reset button, left it unable to see the drive to boot from. However a physical power cycle always booted OK. YMMV of course :) It may have been just that drive unit (we only tried one) We ended up just sticking to Intel 525's and have had no problems with them since. Could be something quirky with the m500, maybe a power draw issue on start? Or just a defective part. Any compatible Intel SSD should work okay. Couple of them are also available on Soekris's website. I can't recall if it was the European one, but you can check the models - they are also available in Amazon as well.
