Thanks for any opinions or suggestions. Kris What renderer have you used before for jobs like this? MR will work but we all know the issues... There is a certain renderer that holds a dominant market share in architectural rendering - and for a good reason :) I'm obviously biased but you should probably consider it too, since it is now reasonably well integrated with Softimage.
Re: render flavor for architecture rendering
i am an Arnold fanboy for sure, but for indoor archvis i would use vray. light cache in combination with irridiance map or brute force is the way to go. Exocortex @ SIGGRAPH + Alembic for 3DS Max + August Sale
Hey all, First, if you didn't know already, Exocortex has a mini booth at SIGGRAPH this year. Come visit us (myself, Helge Mathee and Chris Covelli). We'd love to meet the artists that use our tools to make the magic we see on screen. :-) We'll also be showing off our latest plugins for Softimage including Species, Crate/Alembic, Momentum, Fury, ImplosiaFX, and SlipstreamVX. Here are the directions to our booth: http://exocortex.com/files/ExocortexAtSIGGRAPH2012.png Second, I know that it is a bit sacrilegious for some to mention 3DS Max on this list, but in this case I believe it is okay since the tool we've created is designed to improve Softimage - 3DS Max workflows So without further ado, I can announce that we have just completed the 1.0 release of our Alembic integration into 3DS Max! We have worked hard to ensure that you can transfer data easily between 3DS Max and Softimage using this tool. We have also tried to match all of the current Alembic for Softimage features with our 3DS Max integration. The features that we support include: Meshes (including Dynamic Topology), Splines (including Dynamic Topology), Dummy Objects/Nulls, Hierarchies, Points and PFlow (including instancing), Asset Tracker, Time Controls, Transform Caching and Point Caching (including blending between caches), Material Metadata, Explicit Normals, Multiple UVWs, and V-Ray and MR-based Motion Blur. You can try Exocortex Crate for 3DS Max instantly by filling out a demo request here: http://exocortex.com/alembic/get_alembic Or you can send me a request for a full featured trial license: b...@exocortex.com Lastly, we are offering $100 off Fury 2 pre-sales and Species 1.5 for the rest of August, you can access these discounts via the coupon codes SIGGRAPH-FURY and SIGGRAPH-SPECIES -- Best regards, Ben Houston Voice: 613-762-4113 Skype: ben.exocortex Twitter: @exocortexcom http://Exocortex.com - Passionate CG Software Professionals.

OT: CG places to visit in London + Softimage meetings
Hello guys, a little off-topic here... I'm planning a trip to England in November, for personal reasons, but I would like to take the time and try to visit some CG companies, and maybe meet some Softimage people. Can anybody share information on how friendly or not cg companies in England are with strangers dropping by for a visit? Are some better at this then others? Which is which? Plus, any softimage users getting together for a beer in that time frame? Cheers -- Gustavo E Boehs http://www.gustavoeb.com.br/blog
