I would recommend Assimilate Scratch, if you are freelance, you can rent a
license for a month for 75 dollars, and its not only useful for comping but
also for grading, editing and delivery. If you are doing a VR project, you
can use the software with your Oculus to work on it.

RE: Momentum / implosiafx plugins

2016-05-26 Thread Sven Constable
I checked the crate plugin, but its an just alembic import export. The docs for
momentum says there should be a submenue called 'plotting'. The settings in the
scene root for momentum, regarding plotting are also missing. Version 3 has it.

I checked with Softimage 2011 SP2 and 2015 SP2.

The demo limitation in prior versions did not allow plotting. Maybe the
plotting functions were removed accidently by removing the license verification
inside the 'SoftimageMomentum.dll'. I maybe wrong. Oleg?

Hi all,

Since the EOL of Softmage I'd like to open free access to Momentum and
ImplosiaFX plugins. You can grab it here :
ImplosiaFX

Momentum
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B47NI7NeoDiiNmw1Nm1hdW9mLTg

These links include builds both for win and linux 64bits + documentation and
sample scenes.
It was a lot of fun to make tools and various tech stuff in ICE, thanks all for
the great experience, especially for the ice vimeo channel folks :-) .
Hopefully those plugins still can be usefull.

best regards,

Re: Compositing app choice

Fusion + Resolve it's a great combo IMHO. Yes, fusion lacks on deep
compositing tools, but for anything else, still my compo app. For the
kind of comp work I usually need, I find it much faster than Nuke.

But to be honest, I have evaluated more than once acquiring a Nuke
license. Hard to justify cost when you're freelancer, and that's the main
reason why I keep working with Fusion.

RE: Friday Flashback #274

2016-05-26 Thread Matt Lind
It looks like a lot, but in physical space it fits into 2 shoe boxes.
Anything tangible that had digital representation was tossed years ago. I'm
sure if I search my hard drive I'll find some documents I scanned before
discarding into the trash such as copies of "Words from the Wizard"
newsletters.

I used to have a lot more, but gave stuff away to my students as prizes for
good work and so on. One student got the XSI shoe horn, another the XSI
6-CD carrying case, keychain, Softimage|DS shoulder bag, XSI christmas
ornament, etc.. The only things I still have that weren't photographed are
the T-shirts and business card holderand a few items I just remembered
as I write this sentence: XSI Illuminated, XSI 4 by Michael Isner, (some)
XSI Learn series DVDs, and an old parallel port dongle dating back to the
early 1990's.

Nuke is the most used, and it's not hard to find freelancers for it.
It became the industry 'standard' at some point.
But depending on your budget, I would have a look at Fusion as well.

Both apps have their strengths and weaknesses I guess.
