Re: Mouse

2014-09-30 Thread Ryan Maguire
Microsoft trackball explorer...this mouse was so good for 3d. The first
one I had I wore out the metal balls that the mouse ball spins on,, but
found on eBay there is someone who refurbished them with ceramic balls..
Been using for the last five years now. It seems like all the trackballs
I could find at the time were thumb based... But I've found that I hAve so
much control with Microsoft trackball because it is the first two fingers
that is moving , I like it so much I will probably buy another just in
case this one dies.. Lol. Since for whatever reason they are discontinued

Great!
Thanks for the replies everyone, The blender bolt factory looks like a good
fit.

Thanks,

I was also informed about this site, In case anyone else is interested in
this :

Which allows all sorts for nuts and bolts models to be downloaded in 3D
format.
download available on the product detail pages.

Pre-modeled Threaded parts

2014-08-24 Thread Ryan Maguire
Hello,
Does anyone know of an online library or a add-on that allows for the
creation or import of male female threaded parts real-world
dimensions.

Example* I have modeled a gear shift and need to add a precise female
threaded part on the bottom. If I could import already made .. Then I
could boolean to the poly model and export STL for 3D printing.

I have always been a softimage poly modeler ...But I don't think softimage
is capable of this kind of thing?

Thanks,
-Ryan

Delete all clusters

2014-06-05 Thread Ryan Maguire
Is there a way to delete all clusters on about 400 objects at once?

Thanks,

Perfect!
Thanks so much.

Re: Re: OT: Now that the grief over softimage, how did you get over your it on your daily basis?

2014-05-22 Thread Ryan Maguire

How come I don't hear anything about 3dsmax, I have just started learning
it ... But I like it more and more each day.

Are there huge cons that I should be aware of? Anyone who has extensive
experience in max...

Whats an efficient workflow for importing .IGS?

2014-05-19 Thread Ryan Maguire
I haven't found a decent way of getting .IGS files into softimage without
having to rebuild parts of the mesh. I have tried 3ds max and everything
always imports flawlessly in that software, I guess this . I have tried
exporting .FBX .OBJ. I can never get into softimage without issues.

I had this problem, I

I run softimage 2013 , so i downloaded from the bitbucket aaocean download
site the file Softimage_2013_rev235_stable.rar.

I just figured the file Softimage_2014_rev235_stable.rar was for
softimage 2014...

I tried the latter, and It loaded fine!

 Hi Francisco

Peter's suggestion is on point -- give that a go to find out if you are
 missing any dll's

Also, check the Plugin Manager and see if aaOceanDataShader is showing up
there or not. That will help with finding if it is a shaderDef issue, or an
 actual shader issue

shader not found is very often because of missing dll’s.

with http://www.dependencywalker.com/ you can find which ones are
 missing.

any ideas? also could anyone use this wonderfull tool with redshift?
 thanks in advance.

Re: 3D Printing experience on Softimage

2014-04-03 Thread Ryan Maguire
I have done projects with softimage and makerbot 2x. Wasn't a problem...I
exported as obj , and the makerware software imports it perfectly 1 SI
unit = 1mm

On Thu, Apr 3, 2014 at 2:13 AM, Chris Marshall chrismarshal...@gmail.comwrote:

You could try using the Shapeways.com service to test some models. I've
done a little dabbling and the unit size is no more of an issue than any
other 3d software. You run your object through a free package called
Netfabb, it tells you the scale of the object, which was 1unit=1mm, then
output a .stl file. The good thing with Shapeways is it's all automated,
you upload your model, it tells you how much it'll cost to be printed in
the various materials, then you can order what you want.

For desktop printers under $5,000 USD, it's definitely the best quality
printer. It's the only stereo lithography printer available at that price
and can print with at least 4x better / finer resolution than the extrusion
based printers such as Makerbot. Even though the device is targeted for
prototyping, it has enough quality to be used as final output for some
applications. Down side is the print volume is quite small, your very
limited on choice of printing materials (which also have relatively short
shelf life), and the agents used in the process are caustic. You need to
wear protective gloves to remove the output from the printer and give it a
chemical bath before it's safe to hold with your bare hands - they don't
tell you that part until you open the box.

Hey everyone, thanks for your replies on the previous subject of Quadro
 K4000.

Yesterday I was googling around for 3d printers. I really liked this one:

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHAU-9VIwzk

I was wondering if anyone has already start printing some 3D stuff over
 anyone of these 3d printers?

I know there is a software that comes along with it so you can input
your models and print them out.
