Re: Exocortex Crate (the Alembic suite) goes open source.

2014-12-20 Thread Jens Lindgren
I've been very busy lately so I'm a little late to this thread. But I have
to say that this is the best Christmas present ever! Especially because the
AD implementation of Alembic in 3ds Max is a total joke and completely
useless.

You rock Ben!
Have a Merry Christmas!

Fury works in Maya. Slipstream doesn't -- we tried a couple years ago
to make a Maya port but the Maya particle system is really slow. For
the same reasons the Fury port to Maya is slow as well -- or the
particle systems you want to drive Fury with are hard to create.
Which negatively impacts the usefulness of Fury in Maya. The real
solution would be to re-create a capable particle system that runs

 Hi Simon,

We will continue to contribute to ExocortexCrate as need be. The
Alembic suite though is a fairly complete product at this point -- the
only major exception is Custom Attributes in Maya. We would though be
looking for consulting work from studios that need non-trivial
features added to the suite -- either individually or jointly. We are
very open to consulting work to add new features. We will also for
the foreseeable future be creating the builds for the various

Re: Exocortex Crate (the Alembic suite) goes open source.

And, may I ask what drove this decision?

We will also for
the foreseeable future be creating the builds for the various
platforms as needed.

We are also very busy with Clara.io -- that is true.

Hi all,

I figured you may be interested to know that Exocortex Crate, the
alembic suite for Maya, 3DS Max, Softimage, Arnold and Python just
went open source. You can download it for free and use it for free.
