yep – you’re thinking of SI3D.

(it was much more needed then with the multitude of separate data)

I knew I could do that. But that requires every scene be pre-loaded and then
deleted. Seems like their used to be a move command in project manager that did
not require you to load the scenes.

Maybe I’m thinking of SI 3D….

Just save the scene in a new database, using save as, making sure you select the

copy external files under project, option.

Is it possible, and if so how? I know files can be moved via windows, but
moving a scene that way won’t move all necessary references.

Open current project and scene in it

Setup new project and ofc make it active

Then with scene open got to Save as and there is option to Copy all as
well. just up the name of the file
That should copy all images and referenced models copied under new project.

That should do the trick

RE: deja view

2015-09-18 Thread Matt Lind
If you're thinking about command line tools, then yes, you're likely
thinking of 'DbTools' from Softimage|3D which was run from the UNIX C Shell
allowing you to manipulate files including moving stuff around between
databases while preserving references. That was possible because the scene
file format (.dsc) was plain text and contained all scene items which
themselves were individual files.

Softimage|XSI never had or needed such tools as the scene (.scn) contained
everything except referenced models (.emdl) and image sources. You need to
write your own script and run it either interactively or through
xsibatch.exe if you need that functionality.

If you do not want to use a script, you can manually parse the .scntoc to
gather the links to external files and move them yourself. The .scntoc is a
simple XML file format and easily parsed, and can be written just as easily.
However, the tricky part will be in writing the scene into the new location
with updated references as some .emdl's and other externally referenced
files and caches can contain their own internal paths which you do not have
access to. Which means even if you move the files, they'll still be looking
for data in their old expected locations upon scene load. Hence, the need
to run a script from within the application to load/save the scene.

You can save a scene with the option "External files: Copy all / copy all
under current project"..in the "save as" dialog. (in earlier versions it was
called "Copy External Files under Project" with a checkbox).
