Re: importing 2d points into Soft from 3DE

Thanks Adam,
Sorry for the slow reply. I did try that script but I think I had just too
many tracked points for it to cope with.
Cheers
Chris

Any thoughts on importing 2d point tracks from 3DE into Soft, maybe as
 nulls or something?

 Thanks

Hi Chris,

Glad you got a result...

You could always try going from AE to Soft using a script.

AEtoXSI on the si-community site.

Hope all's well.

A.

Re: importing 2d points into Soft from 3DE

2019-10-09 Thread Chris Marshall
Thanks Juan,
In the end I managed to get one of the py scripts exported by Tracksperanto
into Soft by reducing the number of points in 3DE. Deleting points in 3DE
is a pain as it appears you can only select them in the list view, rather
than selecting the ones on the actual image, thus making it extremely
difficult to group select in a region. Anyway I got the file down to about
10mb and eventually after about an hour it loaded into Soft, then took
about half an hour to run and generate the nulls.
Whether I can do anything with this now is highly unlikely, but I'll see
how it goes.

This is the second job I've tried to use 3DE on. It's without doubt the
worst interface I've ever experienced by far! It's like going back to the
80's and MSDos!! However, after following the very elongated tutorials on
Youtube, I figured out enough to get it to do an auto track. It's tracking
features seem pretty good, but it needs a major overhaul to say the least.
I don't do a lot of motion tracking and haven't needed to for a few years,
but renting 3DE for a week was by far the best option. None of the
alternatives came close to offering a quick solution at a sensible price,
so I might complain about the interface but it did the job pretty good.

Cheers

Chris

2019-10-09 Thread Juan Brockhaus
hi,

I have an attached ancient jscript I've written in 2012 which could import
a rz2 file and created nulls per tracking point.
no idea if it still works.. since I can't test it anymore...

but if 3DE can export a .rz2 file it might work for you?
rz2 format is originally from Matchmover and is just an ascii file format.

rename .lalala to .js

Hope that helps a bit...?

Cheers,

Juan

OK So the alembic exporter doesn't include any 2d tracks. I've tried
running the 2d export through Tracksperanto, which generates a python
script that should create nulls of each 2d track, but the file is 10mb and
wont open in the script editor.

Hmmm I haven’t seen alembic. The Softimage output doesn’t include 2d point
tracks and it doesn’t seem like the other 3D app exports do either. The 2d
tracks come into after effects but I need them in soft. I’ll see if I can
find the Alembic option.
