Well most mailing lists will attach some form of unsubscribe information (as far as I know in some countries its actually a legal requirement.) Some will just add it to the bottom of each email as text other tend to attach the sig file. Those who use email with plain text tend not to get the attachment. I'm not seeing the on my end in gmail, but I can remove the footer if it drives many people nuts. Or I can even force all emails to text. There are a lot of questions about how to unsubscribe from this mailing list, that's why it's there.
