[speedtouch] redhat9 and silver speedtouch330
Greetings, I have a silver speedtouch330 ADSL usb modem and I installed speedbundle-1.0 on a machine running Redhat9 as follows: a) I recompiled the kernel with module-version-control disabled. b) I booted the recompiled kernel. c) I decompressed speedbundle-1.0.tar.gz to a directory ~/speedbundle-1.0 d) I copied (on a floppy) the file alcauadsl.sys from the ~\windows\system32 directory of a machine with windows on which the the windows speedtouch for the silver-speedtouch330 was installed. e) I renamed (and copied) the alcauadsl.sys file described in d) above as ~/speeedbundle-1.0.firmware/firmware.bin. f) I copied ~/speedbundle-1.0/ppp_scripts/speedtch-pppoatm to ~/speedtch and set the username and vpi:vci to 0.38 accordingly (I am in England). g) I modified the ~/speedbundle-1.0/ppp_scripts/(chap/pap-secrets) files. h) I removed the installed ppp with 'rpm -e --nodeps ppp' i) I then ran 'make' then 'make install' and everything compiled and installed without a hitch j) I then linked /etc/ppp/resolv.conf to /etc/resolv.conf k) I then plugged out the modem (no phone line) and in again and obtained a string of messages that the usb bus is scanned. It kept repeating the messages. It did not return to command prompt. I returned to command prompt with 'ctrl-C' (m) I then unplugged the modem inserted a live phone line and replugged the modem and nothing happened. l) At command prompt I typed 'pppd call speedtch' and obtained the following: plugin pppotam.so loaded PPPoATM plugin_init PPPoATM setdevname -remove unwanted options PPPoATM setdevname -pppoatm -SUCCESS:0.38 connect (0.38): Resource-temporarily unavailable I would be grateful for some help/suggestionss. Yours sincerely lux-integ (ps I am able to connect to this account using a another type of adsl modem on a linux-box) Liste de diffusion modem ALCATEL SpeedTouch USB Pour se désinscrire : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
[speedtouch] How is modem_run loading automatically? (Fedora Core 1)
Hi, I tried sending this out before, but my questions didn't get answered, so I'll try again. I'm sorry if the developers felt like they were flamed. I'd really appreciate your help. So I need to know this: 1. How are modem_run and pppd automatically being started when I plug in my modem? I am bugged being a GNU/Linux user/administrator who has no clue what a piece of his system is doing behind his back. 2. Why is modem_run being loaded three times when I plug in the modem, and how can I get it to load only once?. 3. How can I get pppd to load the modem as ppp1 instead of ppp0? 4. PPPd won't let ppp0 (or ppp1, whatever) take priority as being The Internet Connection over my Ethernet card, which is connected to my home network, not to the Internet at all. How can I get the ppp device to take priority (and if possible, automatically)? Thanks, William Liste de diffusion modem ALCATEL SpeedTouch USB Pour se désinscrire : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

[speedtouch] Installing Speedtouch 330 with Mandrake 10.0: where is mgmt.o?
For the past couple of months I've been using a silver Speedtouch 330 USB modem on a PC running Windows XP without any problems. A couple of days ago I decided to replace Windows with Mandrake Linux 10.0 Community version. When trying to install the modem the install procedure told me that I needed to load the Alcatel microcode and that I had to supply a file mgmt.o. I couldn't find this file, so I found and downloaded the speedtouch-20011007.tar.gz file as the install procedure told me to. Opened it up. Still no mgmt.o. Benoit's instructions said that the microcode was in the form of two files: mgmt.o and alcaudsl.sys. Although I no longer had a Windows partition on the disk, I managed to find the alcaudsl.sys file on the CD-ROM which came with the modem. I followed the instructions to load alcaudsl.sys using modem_run and it appeared to work; but when I tried to actually access the Internet, it still complained that I needed the Alcatel microcode and I had to supply mgm t.o. I haven't managed to find this mgmt.o file anywhere. Question 1: where can I get hold of it? Question 2: is that all I need to solve the problem, or is there something else lurking behind it? Mike. Hi Mike! Solve your problem(s) by searching the mail-archive by using 'silver' as argument.that should do it. Ciao Ok mike nash wrote: For the past couple of months I've been using a silver Speedtouch 330 USB modem on a PC running Windows XP without any problems. [speedtouch] Re: How is modem_run loading automatically? (Fedora Core 1)
Hi, I tried sending this out before, but my questions didn't get answered, so I'll try again. I'm sorry if the developers felt like they were flamed. I'd really appreciate your help. I was kind of busy, sorry about that. So I need to know this: 1. How are modem_run and pppd automatically being started when I plug in my modem? I am bugged being a GNU/Linux user/administrator who has no clue what a piece of his system is doing behind his back. This is done by the hotplug subsystem. Look in /etc/hotplug. The script usb.agent is run whenever a USB device is plugged in. USB devices can have their own scripts which go in /etc/hotplug/usb. The script for the speedtouch modem is /etc/hotplug/usb/speedtch (or maybe speedtouch). It launches modem_run and pppd. 2. Why is modem_run being loaded three times when I plug in the modem, and how can I get it to load only once?. The speedtouch hotplug script is run once for each interface on the modem (it has three interfaces). Unfortunately there is no easy way for the script to tell which interface it is being launched for (this is better with 2.6 kernels). So to stop it I would have to do tricks with lock files and all that. Since having it run three times is harmless, I decided to just let it run. 3. How can I get pppd to load the modem as ppp1 instead of ppp0? Try pppd call adsl unit 1 4. PPPd won't let ppp0 (or ppp1, whatever) take priority as being The Internet Connection over my Ethernet card, which is connected to my home network, not to the Internet at all. How can I get the ppp device to take priority (and if possible, automatically)? Try the defaultroute pppd option. Ciao, Duncan. Hi, k) I then plugged out the modem (no phone line) and in again and obtained a string of messages that the usb bus is scanned. It kept repeating the messages. It did not return to command prompt. I returned to command prompt with 'ctrl-C' what messages exactly? (m) I then unplugged the modem inserted a live phone line and replugged the modem and nothing happened. l) At command prompt I typed 'pppd call speedtch' and obtained the following: plugin pppotam.so loaded PPPoATM plugin_init PPPoATM setdevname -remove unwanted options PPPoATM setdevname -pppoatm -SUCCESS:0.38 connect (0.38): Resource-temporarily unavailable This means that the firmware was not loaded. The firmware is loaded by modem_run, supplied in the firmware_loader directory. A newer version is needed with a silver modem. Try replacing the contents of firmware_loader with the CVS version of the user space driver: http://speedtouch.sourceforge.net/index.php?/download.en.html Recompile and reinstall. You will also need a special firmware file, see the documentation in the firmware_loader directory. I hope this helps, Duncan. [speedtouch] Re: How is modem_run loading automatically? (Fedora Core 1)
However, since my system was already a mess from previously trying to install from Benoit Papillault's SpeedTouch USB for *nix SourceForge project (I don't know why you say that his project is an alternative: half of your software is all of his software!), But only a small part of it is used: modem_run for uploading the firmware into the modem. then SpeedBundle from the Linux-USB project, I have no clue how things got working. However, they did not start working until I had all three piled on top of each other, and then I had to do a little trimming to get rid of excess copies of modem_run in the path. Do you have a silver modem? Duncan. Liste de diffusion modem ALCATEL SpeedTouch USB Pour se désinscrire : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

[speedtouch] USB printer and modem: conflict
hi I would like to ask for help about a thing that could be not likely software dependent. My USB printer HP 656c does not work with the speedtouch 330 r4 at the same time. The printer just does not respond. The only thing I have debugged so far is a 'input output error'. I know this may be out of topic, but I really need to know if someone had my problem to get rid off this problem. regards Cesar Catrian C. _ Do You Yahoo!?
