Here the microcode alcaudsl.sys
By the way: since I changed from VIA chipset to OPTi, I had no CRC errors
anymore!

 Edouard Gomez removed the software buffering in the latest CVS source;
So that you probably do not use it.

I checked out the CVS two weeks ago, so I still have SW buffering. Edouard
only removed it 43 hours ago. Kernel message:

Jan 27 00:04:19 localhost modem_run[12310]: Enabling SW buffering

So I do think that SW buffering can work, but maybe it requires the new
microcode.

2003-01-26 Thread Matthieu Foillard

Le Monday 27 January 2003 00:28, Favre-Nicolin Vincent a écrit :
 Hi all,

I switched to the ST 330 two weeks ago after my old speedtouch died
on me. I'm accessing internet with wanadoo (france), with a Mandrake 9.0.
The working configuration (at the expected 64 kb/s dl and 16 kb ul) is
finally: - the speedtouch driver with the latest CVS code, without any
modification (i.e. SW buffering _is_ enabled)

Edouard Gomez removed the software buffering in the latest CVS source;
So that you probably do not use it.

 - the alcaudsl.sys microcode from somewhere on the wanadoo cdrom

Note that I did see the low connection (dl around 8-15 kb/s), with
hundreds of CRC error in an AAL5 frame per minute, but only when I used
 the mgmt.o microcode...

So I strongly encourage anyone with lots of CRC errors to stick with the
alcaudsl.sys microcode and the _unmodified_ CVS driver. To me the SW
buffering works, but it may be that it is only suitable with the new
microcode (?), which could explain some of the woes discussed on this list.

Also note that the very first time I used that combination (CVS driver +
alcaudsl.sys), I think it took some time (20 min ?) for the download speed
to reach the 64 kb/s, so don't just try for a few seconds. (yeah, I know
it's strange and probably wrong, but since I have no idea what trigger
there could be in the microcode the modem, who knows... It may be that I
had not reinitialized properly the modem (rmmod usb-uhci))

Another (unrelated) note: I'm using a soltek motherboard with a VIA
chipset, so it _is_ possible to use that combination to make the modem
work. However, the trouble about the VIA usb is about the not sufficient
USB _power_ supply, not the usb interface itself. My modem is not
connected directly to the motherboard, but to my screen which works
 as a usb hub.
So if you have trouble with a VIA usb connection, just try using a
 usb hub, that may help.

Here are my 0.02¤ ! By the way, kudos to all developpers !

   Vincent

 PS: modem runs with:
 /usr/local/sbin/modem_run -v 0 -m -f /usr/share/speedtouch/alcaudsl.sys

PPS: my /etc/peers/adsl, in case that may be useful
