Has anyone ever use the tube silicon sealant to protect sensitive areas
when

powder coating? I figured since the plugs and caps are made with cured
silicone, that some hardened silicone will also provide protection, and
still be easy to remove. Any ideas?

Re: [Spits] GT6 Radiator Caps

2008-12-30 Thread FRED E THOMAS
On the subject of heat in the cockpit, check the firewall to insure "all"
grommets are in place and the correct size, the biggest problem with 1500 is
the engine/tranny cover, if you cover this with heat reduction material the
temp inside will drop 20 degrees, the cover is a economy based material and
rots easily, "Home-Depot" took care of this for me for less than $20.00,
BTW, I purchased my car from a school teacher several years ago because of a
heated compartment, only had about 6 hugh holes in the cover and several
grommets missing, I bought it cheap back then, great car if this problem is
corrected. "FT"

[Spits] winter time

2007-12-21 Thread FRED E THOMAS
Easy way to check for radiator corrosion protection, just as important as
checking the antifreeze, if the coolant is allowed to become "acidic" the
engine and radiator will also become corroded with rust. Using a volt-ohm
meter (VOM) set it to a DC voltage range that measure in "tenths" of a volt,
remove the cap and place the negative VOM lead into coolant, being very
careful not to touch any other part of the radiator. Place the Positive lead
of the VOM against a bare metal part of the radiator (or a good ground of the
engine), a reading of 0.2 volts or less, coolant is in good shape, a reading
of 0.5 volts it is borderline, 0.7 volts replace your coolant immediatly.
This comes from my "Model A" workshop manual and also says it works in modern
cars as well, which is really more important because of aluminum heads or
dissimilar metals in modern cars.

Listers, on all the news programs this a/m, there will be a recall on several
brands of tires made in Japan, including Yokohomo's, warnings are supposed to
be out in a few days as to the dangers of these tires, sort-a like Firestones
from a few years ago. New Virginia law effective on Monday July 2, 2007,
failure to give hand signal or turn signal regular cost of court plus fine,
then DMV will charge a "FEE" from $1050.00 for 1st offense to $3,000 when you
pass two, ==YES== three thousand dollars== , cheaper to go out and rob a 7/11.

2005-04-21 Thread FRED E THOMAS
   Secret to a Happy Marriage

A couple was celebrating their golden wedding anniversary on the
beach in Montego Bay, Jamaica . Their domestic tranquility had long
been the talk of the town.
"What a peaceful & loving couple". A local newspaper reporter was
inquiring as to the secret of their long and happy marriage.
Well, it dates back to our honeymoon in America ," explained the
man. "We visited the Grand Canyon in Arizona and took a trip down
to the bottom of the canyon by horse.
We hadn't gone too far when my wife's horse stumbled and she almost
fell off. My wife looked down at the horse and quietly said, "That's
 once."
We proceeded a little further and the horse stumbled again, this
time causing her to drop her water. Once more my wife quietly
 said, "That's twice. "
We hadn't gone a half-mile when the horse stumbled for a third time.
My wife quietly removed a revolver from her purse and shot the horse
 dead.
I shouted at her, "What's wrong with you, Woman! Why did you shoot
the poor animal like that? Are you crazy??"
She looked at me, and quietly said, "That's once."
"And from that moment we have lived happily ever after."

detailing

2005-01-14 Thread FRED E THOMAS
For under hood/chassis and frame I use "Simple Green (diluted 3/1) and my
pressure washer, I remove all 4 wheels and go to work.
For the paint you must rinse under high pressure (pressure washer is O/K) very
throughly 3 to 4 times to remove all dirt, then a wool mitten with a good auto
washing liquid, do this a section at a time ( hood, one fender, one door) and
rinse good, "DO-NOT" use a chamosis, wash the car dry, remove the hose end and
turn the water pressure down and run the end over the surface washing the
water away, (it works trust me)
Use a good "Clay-Bar" and Maguires "Quick-Detailer" to remove all old wax and
hidden/buried contaminents, do this one section at a time, 1/2 hood, one
fender, one door, etc etc
I like "Klasse" cleaner and then "Klasse" High Gloss Sealant Glaze"
www.properautocare.com, this product is amazing with the ease of applying and
removing, I use only "Micro-Fiber" applicators and towels, these are available
from "QVC" and other sites on the net, very inexpensive for the results. My
experience with waxes are as follows
# 1- Klasse High Gloss
# 2- Auto Glym Super Resin Polish & Auto Glym Extra Gloss Protection
# 3- Maguires # 7 Show Car Glaze
Interiorood then use any of the spray cans of carpet cleaner foam and again
vacumn dry,
"Lexoyl conditioner" on the seats doors panels and dash, then Lexoyl preserver
on same
NEVER use "Armor-All" as this dries out the oils in the material and leads to
cracking and quick deteration of the interior
Tires brush wash and Maguires tire black , white walls I like Westley's WSW
cleaner(don't forget the backside of the tires)
Door jams "Maguires Quick Detailer"
White top a mixture of warm water/Ajax/clorox, use a wooden floor brush and
rinse as you go
Chrome= PPG # 579 metal cleaner diluted 5 to 1, spray on and keep it wet for
about 2 minutes, rinse and then use windex and Maguires Polish.
This is a once a year chore, the rest of the year just wash and use quick
detailer where needed (trailer Queens once every 5 years)
Now you are ready for a nice neighborhood ride to be very proud of

Fw: Lucas jokes for a happy New Year

2005-01-03 Thread FRED E THOMAS
Thanks Susan K.

   * The Lucas motto: "Get home before dark."
   * "And the Lord said 'let there be light'...Joseph Lucas replied 'no
way, Lord, no way'."
   * Lucas denies having invented darkness. But they still claim
"sudden, unexpected darkness".
   * Lucas--inventor of the first intermittent wiper.
   * Lucas--inventor of the self-dimming headlamp.
   * The three-position Lucas switch--DIM, FLICKER and OFF. The other
three switch settings--SMOKE, SMOLDER and IGNITE.
   * The original anti-theft devices--Lucas Electric products.
   * "I've had a Lucas pacemaker for years and have never experienced
any prob..."
   * If Lucas made guns, wars would not start either.
   * Did you hear about the Lucas powered torpedo? It sank.
   * It's not true that Lucas, in 1947, tried to get Parliament to
repeal Ohm's Law. They withdrew their efforts when they met too much
resistance.
   * Did you hear the one about the guy that peeked into a Land Rover
and asked the owner "How can you tell one switch from another at night,
since they all look the same?" "He replied, it doesn't matter which one
you use, nothing happens!"
   * Back in the '70s Lucas decided to diversify its product line and
began manufacturing vacuum cleaners. It was the only product they
offered which didn't suck.
   * Quality Assurance phoned and advised the Engineering guy that they
had trouble with his design shorting out. So he made the wires longer.
   * Why do the English drink warm beer? Lucas made the refrigerators,
too.

   * Alexander Graham Bell invented the Telephone. Thomas Edison
invented the Light Bulb. Joseph Lucas invented the Short Circuit.
   * Recommended procedure before taking on a repair of Lucas
equipment: check the position of the stars, kill a chicken and walk
three times clockwise around your car chanting: "Oh mighty Prince of
Darkness protect your unworthy servant."
   * Lucas systems actually uses AC current; it just has a random
frequency.
   * Lucas is an acronym for Loose Unsoldered Connections and Splices.

Re: Dished Pistons

2004-11-25 Thread FRED E THOMAS
I think it goes back to the Cockney rhyming slang exchange of a few weeks
back. Americans are referred to as "septics", short for septic tank, which
rhymes with Yank. Not the most pleasant slang terminology.
Cheers,
Bill.

Bill, thanks for clearing me up on this, I guess I should have posted just
to Larry rather than the entire list, to the list and Larry Vaughn, my

Just say "Congrats"

2004-10-24 Thread FRED E THOMAS
After many, many years of traveling back and forth between Atlanta and Houston
for a not too pleasant treatment for the deadly "Big C", Ronnie Babbitt of the
Georgia Triumph Club and VTR has received word he is "FREE" of the diease and
can now try to live a normal life again without this threatening him and his
family, if you know Ronnie I'm sure feel the same as he does today, so please
just say "Congrats" to Ronnie and his family they've been through enough the
last 15 years. "CONGRATS" Mr. Babbitt". "FT"

I can't wait, if you have never attended any of these races you have no idea
what you are missing, they put on a "fan"tastic show and these folks are
just great, they come from all across the country as well as the U/K for
this get together, and you have no idea how fast a T/R can really be, not to
mention the great drivers, mark it down now as a must attend next year, I
bet Henry Frye even shows up "FT"

VTR Richmond

2004-08-31 Thread FRED E THOMAS
Any listers at VTR that took in the dinner cruise to "Shockhow Bottom" (?),
well "Hurricane Gaston" took it all out, on the T/V news just now they showed
3 cars piled up on top of each other and the the remains of most of the old
buildings, the parking lots had cars covered with water, quite a tragedy.

greasey hands

2004-08-28 Thread FRED E THOMAS
Just came out of the garage and your hands are just caked with dirty old
grease and grim, don't want to scrub them with a brush and Ajax, then take 2
minutes and wash them with clean 30 weight motor oil (no water), they'll be
just as clean as before with very little effort, a Henry Ford trick dating to
the 1920's "FT"

convention

2004-07-18 Thread FRED E THOMAS
The very best convention I have ever attended, every detail was taken care of
and some I could not even think of were already covered in their plans, just a
wonderful time was had by all. A 12,000 mile 59 TR3A took best of show and it
was well deserved, just a perfect car in everyway. Only one very bad incident
and that was the Friday night "auction", seems the RTR host floor attendants
handling the parts were also running up the bids and then stopping their
bidding after they had inflated the price, no doubts in any one minds that
were standing in the back watching these dirty little thieves/crooks steal VTR
members monies and stealing is exactly what they did, it is a real shame that
these 4 RTR members decided to ruin what had been a perfectly convention, no
host club should ever need money this bad to resort to stealing from VTR
members. "FT"
