I have done projects where they had to do the same at those same facilities. It
is unusual to hang for sure.

We have done many document storage facilities like an Iron mountain. With over
10 levels of isle protection. All our pipe hangs off the grate from the floor
above. When I call my supplier I call the “subway clips” but doing a google
search I am not getting them. If you send me an email I will share the spec
sheet.

The Hanger chapter in NFPA 13 only mentions the structure. I don’t believe it
was the intention to allow attachments to grated floor systems.

I ran into an installation where the ring hanger was attached to the metal
grating to support sprinkler pipe below. I'm trying to find the right way to
support the fire sprinkler pipe. I searched several manufacturers, but I don't
see a metal grating clip that accepts all thread for fire protection. Most
hangers were attached to structural steel using Sammys.

Are there any listed attachments to metal grating for hangers supporting fire
sprinkler pipe?

We have used stove bolts with a large head and a long thread. That minimizes
the possibility of a trip hazard as there is only a small bump on top of the
grating.
