Well, I have to add my two cents here. I've been following this thread and
alot of people have been generous enough to the troll. I think its nice to
see a community such as this that is generous with time and clues. However,
I've seen some responses from the person that asked this initially and I say
Troll is putting it nicely. Thumbs up to the SQLite community as a whole and

I didn't earlier, but it seems obvious now because you're clearly not
capable of it. Like most of the others here I learned things the hard
way, by working them out for myself. Of course that takes time, a bit
determination and some intelligence. I know how difficult it is for
people that don't have those skills - I helped quite a few of them
through college.

Not sure how to parse this what with the spelling and strange use of
"English". I don't think it's anything to do with several hours of beer
drinking because I can still communicate better than you can. And 1.9%
beer? Is there such a thing? Is that strong for American beer? Most
British beer is 4-7% and even weak British beer is over 3%.You do have
to be over 18 to get it though. I avoid those under about 5-6% for taste
reasons.

Funnily enough I am British and don't think you're a "nigger" as you so

of how far down the left hand side of the bell curve you are rather than
resorting to the feeble racial/sexual stereotypes so beloved of the
people whose lot it is to down there looking up at the peak. Luckily
that peak is large enough that the posters on this list who are on the

Couple of basic points that seem to have escaped your razor sharp
insight. SQL is the language, SQLite is a library that implements it.
Most users are well aware of this basic fact - it's only failed wannabes
that have missed it. And the fact that SQLite compiles SQL to byte code
which is interpreted doesn't prevent SQL from being a language any more
than it does .NET, Python, Java, Pascal, BASIC or many others for all I
know. And a lot of BIG companies use this "interpreted piece of crap" -
what's your contribution to the global good?

Now Terry, I must dash - it's 2am and my missus and I have some brandy
and a bottle of port to finish off before bedtime. If you're interested
in the numbers I think they're about 40% but to be honest I drink them
because I like the taste, which is more than I can say about tedious

I think with that last one you best witch to some other database. I

Dear Mr. Kid,

I'm Slovakian and I hope you will accept a reply from me. I think that
at least 3 people answered your request in a very polite way. Please
don't judge them by your own standards.

The first requirement when working with SQLite is to know the SQL
language, only then you can try to use this library. If you don't
require SQL compatible data storage, look for some other library,
there are plenty of them on sf.net or freshmeat.net .

If you need to find some SQL tutorials, feel free to click on
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=sql+tutorial . That will show you
how to search for a text, and other things. Once you master all kinds
SELECTs, this mailing list can give you lot of answers on optimizing
your searches using indices and help you with other SQLite-specific
syntax.

If this is not what you're looking for, try to be more specific. Sorry
for top-posting.

There are people on this forum who are extremely generous with their
time and talent, none more than Dr Hipp who has created and maintains a
first rate piece of software yet is generous enough to provide it free
of charge to all those who can find a use for it. Be nice to them and
they will make an extraordinary effort to be helpful to you.

By the way Sqlite is a DBMS library for embedded applications, not a
language. It uses SQL as its input and incorporates an embedded
metalanguage, VDBE, which is the output of the SQL compiler and actually
executes the data manipulation.

RE: [sqlite] i have a few Qs - sqlite3

2006-07-07 Thread Fred Williams
I would guess from the drift of things, you really should be working at
learning the database language "SQL" and not "learning" SQLite. SQLite
is only one of a multitude of modern relational databases which use SQL
as their language of choice for their user interface.

Actually using SQLite once you know and understand the inherent
structure and design philosophies of modern databases in general is
basically a "no brainer" I installed SQLite and in less than a day was
playing with the new toy. But, I've been messing with relational
databases before they were named that and long before SQL became a
defacto industry standard.

Sometimes things are just not as easy as the marketing department leads
you to believe. Resign yourself to learning about databases in general,
then SQL the language, and then SQLite will be a "no brainer" for you as
well.

If there are no books perhaps you can find a local mentor. The support
structure of SQLite is not designed to be a database teaching tool. It
is as it is, a support structure. And you will find answers to support
like questions here, but try to soak up the bandwidth and hand holding
that would be required for "Databases 101" and you will get pretty much
the reaction you have already witnessed.

It is also not against the law to skip ahead in text when you find the
current topic boring. How else could one read all those 1000+ page
tomes so ubiquitous in our field of endeavor.

This type of thing works - http://www.1keydata.com/sql/sql.html

You can also look through the Sqlite documentation.

An SQL driven database is not a good tool for a person who doesn't want
to get some SQL knowledge.

If you are looking for spoon feeding, seeking free information on the
Internet is not the way. Enroll.

I found Sqlitespy a bit flaky but useful. Sqlbrowser seems to be quite
effective.

about the tutorials i cant find any sqlite good ones
should i read mysql ones?

any texts i can read so i can learn the basics instead of having to crawl
though piles of nonsense texts? because most tutorials ive found doesnt
seem

quite right they TRY to explain a lot but they TEACH way too little.

Try sqlitespy or sqlbrowser. Both free to download.

You will need to learn some SQL. Just find an on-line tutorial and
learn the basics. It will on take a couple of hours.

hi i have a few questions hope they dont bother much.

I) how can i know how many tables and how many rows there are in my
database?
II) how can i perform a search on my database?

i need to do simple text search queries. and about knowing the amount of
tables and rows. i need this because i want to have a few statistics. so is
there any way of knowing how many tables and how many rows there are in
total via a query?

im interested in searching on just a column of each table in this database
but i dont know any sql at all.
im using sqlite3.

does anybody know of a good administration tool for sqlite3? because i only
found a few tools but they werent quite done. and the others ive found were
shareware so i want to know if theres any freeware good tool out there?.
