which gives me a display like:

33853

which is the same as I get with LMS 8.1.2.

I guess there is a problem with the title of a file in the playlist but
I don't know how to debug it from here.

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] All synced players stop when one player drops out

2021-03-20 Thread chill

I normally have several players synced and powered up: usually a minimum
of a wired Boom, a wireless Boom and a wired piCorePlayer. The server
is also wired. The wireless Boom is in the kitchen, and if I run the
microwave it interferes with wifi reception so LMS can't reach that
Boom. After about 30 seconds playback stops on all the synced players
and when the microwave stops they all fire up again. It struck me that
I don't really understand why all the other players stop, and ideally
I'd like that behaviour to change :)

There are other times when a player that disappears seems to block
playback to its synced partners: a bluetooth player defined in pCP will
do the same (or it used to - I don't know if that has changed) if the
bluetooth speaker gets physically turned off, a USB DAC will do the same
if the DAC itself is powered off (although configuring Squeezelite to
stop and start in sync with the DAC fixes this case).

So why is it necessary for all playback to stop when a synced player
drops out, and can something be changed so that the other players
continue without interruption? I would expect there to be a momentary
interruption when the dropped player reappears, due to the usual syncing
process, but that would be preferable to having the whole house go quiet
when I use the microwave!

I know I could look into making that Boom wired instead of wireless, but
that's easier said than done in the kitchen, and that's not the point.
The point is, what logic cases the other players to stop? They don't do
it when a player is soft-powered-off in mid playback, and it would be
nice if they didn't do it when the mechanism for sending audio to a
dropped player senses a problem.

Yep, ALACs will work just fine in LMS. And having the FLAC backups is
good. (I probably have at least 6 backups of all my files, stored in 3
different locationsI'm paranoid. Ripping 8,000 CDs is not something

Do keep in mind that although both FLAC and ALAC files are lossless,
ALAC does not have an embedded CRC from original creation. What this
means, is that with FLAC files, one can easily run a batch test of
whether any files on your drive are corrupted. I often use this feature
of FLAC files when creating a brand new backup drive. Afterwards, I
convert all these files to [TEST CONVERSION] using dbpoweramp to insure
that the decoded FLAC file CRC matches the embedded CRC from the
original ripping. Other programs can do this too. I always like to
point this out as a major benefit of FLAC files as compared with ALAC,
AIFF, WAV, etc.

I think I've been able to resolve it by removing the files in question,
bulk converting them from *.FLAC to *.MP4 (apple lossless) via Musicbee,
then reloading in the library. Ran a trial this morning with success. So
I'll do the bulk format conversion on the rest this afternoon.

maybe it's not the renaming of the track, but the change in date
modified of the file for the underlying file. Because when writing tags
(most) programs add a buffer, so changing the tag fields doesn't
necessarily change the file SIZE. With same file size and same file
name and same date modified, LMS may not see this as a changed file.
There are programs out there that can changed to date created/modified
by a few seconds in a batch way, to solve this issue. I've used this:

(at least I thought they did). Interestingly these are all HDCD encoded
rips with peak extension that I converted to the 20-bit decoded
versions. Deleted the encoded versions, and gave the 20bit decoded
versions new tag name. I probably did this at least a year ago and I'm
surprised I only caught it now especially having so many Grateful Dead
titles affected.

Renaming the folders does not work. Having probably 50-ish albums that
are like this which I would prefer to not rename each individual track,
I'm wondering if would it just be easier to delete LMS from my computer

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] what's searching Lyrics tags?

2021-03-20 Thread mafyou

The very wordy, 45-minute song/album "The Microphones in 2020" download
came with its lyrics in its tags. Now this is coming up in every other
search I do. Pretty funny. I don't see anywhere to customize what fields
are searched... I'm wondering if I'll have to kick the lyrics out to a
text file maybe, or is "Lyrics" tag searching part of the "full text
search" plug-in? Might just disable that.

The problem with upnp/dlna is standards or rather lack of them. A device
can be

Dlna compatible
Dlna certified
Dlna compliant

ItÂ’s a case of trial and error to get the UpnpBridge set up to work as
well as possible with you device

As for control. Try material skin on Mac and iPad - the interface is
consistent across both and you can add to Qobuz favourites using it.

Wow, this sounds amazing.
Unfortunately I do not understand a lot of what you were saying because
I am not a linux pro.

If I have an open VPN config file and a key file etc., would this be
possible to connect my Touch via open VPN to my home network?
What would I need to do to accomplish?
Ralphy , I know you are very busy with all kinds of things, I hope
somebody else has the time to explain to me.
To me this sounds like very good news, so it might be possible to use my
touch remotely?
Thank you very much,

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Remote access to LMS: VPN, Port Forwarding, any tips?

2021-03-20 Thread ralphy

I've been investigating adding SSL support to the community firmware and
have built two versions of openvpn for the touch using mbedtls and
openssl.

Unfortunately, mbedtls doesn't support many ciphers or digests, nor TLS
1.3. Which is too bad as it's much lighter than openssl. I had already
built openvpn with it before I realized those limitations.

The touch can handle moderate traffic with openvpn-openssl without
taxing the CPU. Here's a few top snapshots playing 16bit, 44.1Khz ALAC
files over a remote DSL connection. I choose ALAC instead of FLAC since
jive uses more CPU decoding ALAC. I didn't try any higher resolution
files.

ALAC Track start.

Code:

PID PPID USER STAT VSZ %MEM %CPU COMMAND
  12253 1 root R 5660 4% 25% /media/sda1/openvpn-openssl
--config /media/sda1/touch.ovpn --daemon
  16819 1 root S28968 23% 17% /usr/bin/jive
  16828 16819 root S 8528 7% 4% jive_alsa -v -d default -c default
-b 2 -p 2 -s 24 -f 1
  16827 16819 root S 8608 7% 3% jive_alsa -v -d plughw:2,0 -b 2
-p 2 -s 16 -f 2

Plackback after 1 minute.

Code:

PID PPID USER STAT VSZ %MEM %CPU COMMAND
  12253 1 root S 5660 4% 6% /media/sda1/openvpn-openssl

Both openvpn versions and the kernel tun.ko driver are 'available on
sourceforge'
This is only for the Touch it won't run on the Radio or Controller.

You need to load the tun kernel driver using *insmod tun.ko* before
running openssl or the commands can be added to /etc/init.d/rcS.local if
you wanted openvpn to start at boot.

Here's a few top snapshots playing a 16bit, 44.1Khz
ALAC files over a remote DSL connection. I choose ALAC instead of FLAC
since jive uses more CPU decoding ALAC. I didn't try any higher
resolution files.

ALAC Track start.

Code:

PID PPID USER STAT VSZ %MEM %CPU COMMAND
  12253 1 root R 5660 4% 25% /media/sda1/openvpn-openssl
--config /media/sda1/touch.ovpn --daemon

-p 2 -s 16 -f 2

Plackback after 1 minute.

Code:

PID PPID USER STAT VSZ %MEM %CPU COMMAND
  12253 1 root S 5660 4% 6% /media/sda1/openvpn-openssl

You need to load the tun kernel driver using *insmod tun.ko* before
running openssl or add the commands to /etc/init.d/rcS.local if you
wanted openvpn to start at boot.

I've also been testing a version of squeezelite with SSL on the Touch
and Radio to see if it's worth trying to add SSL support to the firmware
and both devices have no problems playing direct https streams.
Unfortunately, it's not straight forward to run squeezelite with
squeezeplay. You need to change enableAudio=1 in Playback.lua and
restart squeezeplay before squeezelite with run. Additionally on the
Radio you have to modify several lua files to stop the automatic
powering off the amp when the idle timer triggers. One neat feature
using squeezelite on the touch is you can run separate instances on the
RCA and SPDIF jacks for 2 zones and you can use Choose Player to control
either one.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Issues with album title updates in LMS

2021-03-20 Thread dminches

I have some of the same issues. In some instances I have corrected the
artist and album artists tags but the album still show up under the old
artist name. I have dozens of tag corrections that aren't reflected in
my LMS library.

This seems to happening quite frequently. I don't remember it happening
in the dim and distant past but now it is happening enough to be really
annoying.[image:

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS, Qobuz and UPnP

2021-03-20 Thread liffy99

Hi
At present I am running LMS 7.9 on my IMac where my FLAC music library
also resides. I also have. Qobuz subscription.
I run Squeezepad on an Ipad to use as a control point and direct output
to my UPnP and Airplay enabled DAC / amplifier (Lyngdorf tda3400).
When using Airplay as the route across the network all works reasonably
well. However there are limitation - the inbuilt resolution limit built
into Airplay (16/44?) and the fact I cannot save favourite tracks
listened to on Qobuz via Squeezepad (to save favourites I have to go
upstairs to the Mac and use the Qobuz interface directly).

To overcome the Airplay limit I thought I would try switching to UPnP.
Yes, I get a connection but funny things happen when I try and use
Squeezepad. Tracks will only play one at a time (so cannot play a
playlist or album without selecting every individual track), the play
next track feature ( >>) does not work and at times a track will just
stop playing as it nears the end.

I have tried changing and checking some of the parameters in LMS (eg
play all tracks on album) to no avail.

So not sure where to look. Is this simply a problem with different
interpretations of UPnP, is it a Squeezepad issue, have the Qobuz and
UPnP plugins for LMS been updated and I should try and reload ? Or
should I be looking for an LMS / Squeezepad alternative ?

I did briefly try Audirvana but hated the Ipad interface when compared
to Squeezepad (even though it did have the ability to save Qobuz
favourites).

Answers on a postcard . . .
