It is certainly not a problem for me to continue without the playlist
search by title, I 'd never use this. I have only a few playlists, which
are all stored in one directory. So there is no reason to search this
way.

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS 8.2.1 and 8.3

2021-08-18 Thread EEYORE

I have been using LMS 8.2.0 nightlies with no problems on my SB2s. But I
finally decided to try 8.2.1, and 8.3, and found problems after
installation of both. The first problem was that my Presets, for
accessing my Tunein stations, from Player/Device1/Menus does not show up
on my screen even though it is selected.

I also noticed that I receive an error message when I access the Plugins
tab. The message indicates that my repositories are not accesable. I use
them to keep some plugins updated especially SuperDateTime! This might
be why I get a ? on my screen when the SB2 is off.

In addition, when I manually check for an updated version in
Advanced/Software Updates, there is no reaction to selecting the "Check
for updates now" button. No message pops up indicating whether an update
is available or not.

And when I try to reinstall 8.2.0 by overwriting 8.2.1/8.3, as I
normally do when updating to a new version, I have the same problems as
when I update to 8.2.1/8.3. Since I have been unable to fix the problem
all I can do is use a backup copy of my Windows 7 to go back to 8.2.0.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I use logitech transporter as the player. I don't have other clients. so
far, I can only see the Chinese characters properly displayed on the
transporter screen with "larsks' image" based images. This is what I
meant by "support.

Right now, there are only two such images available:

Apnar/ligitech-media-server
joschi/lms

Both of these are based on larsks original image. I am using the same
host - DS920+. It appears to me this is image-dependent. I have tried
about 10 other images including the official one, none would dispaly
Chinese properly on the transporter.

Thanks

I've committed a change which... looks too good to be true! It brought
down FTS indexing time from somewhere around 45 minutes to about 3
minutes. Scanning your 20k playlist previously took about 16 minutes
alone, and memory consumption spiked around 9GB. Now it takes seconds,
and memory stays around 1GB (with memory set to Maximum).

It's late. Maybe I'm missing something obvious. So please give the
search feature using FTS some thorough testing!

Oh: you'll have to rescan your collection to make this work (no wipe
required).

errors. Will fill it up and send again. I use fulltext search regulary,
so this won't be a longterm option for me.

Are you using the search eg. find a playlist by track, too? In the past
we only stored the playlist's name and URL in the FTS index, but no
track information. One change from about a year ago now puts all track
information in the playlist index, too. This allows you to search for a
playlist by track title, or artist of a track etc.

If you didn't use this feature and were willing and able to edit a text
file, you could disable this new behaviour and easily fall back to the
much faster and less memory hungry old method.

I think you’ll find it is in a dynamically created .m3u file but is in

I uploaded the library.db with all 45 playlists some minutes ago.

Scan is still running. But quite interesting observation already: the
memory footprint was pretty stable - until the playlist FTS index
started. Scanning the largest of them took a little over 15mins. Memory
usage immediately increased by 300-400MB, where it stayed for the first
5-10mins. Then it jumped by another 5GB, steadily increasing until it
used about 8.5GB more than before this playlist...

It most certainly is scanned/indexed but is all local. It took about 15
seconds before playback started so building it took a wee bit.

Just for clarity, a random playlist is built when requested - it's not
in a .m3u file anywhere.

Hello Michael

That is a very valid question. I believe that playlists with up to
20'000 have been opened and played in LMS without error message (at
least started, who listens through 20'000 files? ;-)). I checked: I
actually set the limit to 20'000 tracks. But of course this is an edge
case, what's the point of generating such big playlists? Here is my
special explanation: I open them with foobar2000 and copy the
corresponding music files to other directories to distribute them on my
mp3 player, my iphone or on USB stick for my car or my friends. I
usually do not select such extreme playlists to play in LMS.

I am quite sure that playlists up to 4'000 tracks (size around 1 MB)
will play in LMS without any problems. As I said, I am an edge-case and
fully understand if for me the troubleshooting effort is limited.
However, for me the error seems to be related to the sum rather than the
size of the playlists. Again, thank you very much.

Thanks! I'll see what I can do. Most likely this is the change that
broke the scan for you:

https://github.com/Logitech/slimserver/commit/077e3dfe8cc9774399a7835fd1f7e9a3a92099e4

"Improve indexing performance on large playlists" - probably at the cost
of memory usage... And not with that large playlists :-). Would LMS even

I Think that true random should be, to start looking at the playlist
length. Example 350 tracks. And then random 1 to 350…..
This would be true random of the PLAYLIST.

Thanks a lot Ronnie, this is really helpful. I will test "Start LMS at
login" again.
I updated my SSL libs a while back already to see if that worked. It
helped with installing firmware updates on my Touch for the LMS 8.2 but
not for this.
I'm going to read through all the threads (I did search but peobably not
well enough) and see if a solution comes up.

Thanks again, Jan

Tx for considering, yes I can see if you're on nightlies the commits
timeline list would be helpful.
FWIW the pCP LMS page says I'm on the Release branch.

I'd say that is an oversimplified assumption. In fact I would expect it
to be more likely that people will 'downgrade' their LMS platform by
moving from a Windows PC to something like a Pi to save on their
electric bill and eliminate fan noise.

Also, almost always a "new computer" is substantially faster -
processor, ssd etc etc - than your old one, even if getting a faster
machine has not per se been an objective of the upgrade. When I
installed LMS on this new machine, and plugged in a 1tb external ssd
packed full of FLAC stuff, I expected a looong scan, overnight and
more. Took a couple of hours.

LMS 8.2.1 - 1628023316

b) Freebox
External SSD (all mp3), WiFi Laptop
