Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] PiCorePlayer (LMS) Cache File Location
Well I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but the whole system becomes laggy and unstable when I move the LMS cache files to the new Primary ext4 partition. I've tried deleting and recreating the partition but the result is the same. It's not a big deal, it works well with the cache files in the default location so I think I'll stick with that for the time being. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] PiCorePlayer (LMS) Cache File Location
I may have overdone itdoes it matter how large the partitions are? It's a 16gb card and I had previously resized one of the partitions within PCP to 2000meg. The additional Primary partition is 4000meg. I know it's overkill but I thought I might as well use the space. I'm away today and tomorrow so will have another look when I'm home. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] PiCorePlayer (LMS) Cache File Location
Yep, it's definately got something to do with the new partition. When I Move the cache files back to the PcP boot disk it all works well again. I'll have another go tomorrow acanning's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13303 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110884 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] PiCorePlayer (LMS) Cache File Location
Success!! :o I used Lubuntu in the end and managed to alter the partition using KDE Partition Manager. It was actually quite easy :) Thanks again for all your help. I now have a Pi4 working quicker than ever. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] PiCorePlayer (LMS) Cache File Location
Paul Many thanks. I don't want to create any more work for you so let me have a play here first using either Gparted or my Linux laptop. I'll let you know how I get on. I appreciate your help. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] PiCorePlayer (LMS) Cache File Location
Many thanks. I'll give Gparted a go. I remembered that I also have a Linux laptop so perhaps I'll have a look there as well. One final (unrelated) questionis it possible to copy the prefs folder from a previous M2P installation to the PCP installation? I have the prefs folder I want to use but can't see how to get access to the correct location on the PCP SD cardor will that become available once I've dealt with the partition issue mentioned above? [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] PiCorePlayer (LMS) Cache File Location
Hello Ive had a look through the forum and read loads of threads but Im still unsure about what is the best policy with regard to the location of the LMS cache files in PCP. Im setting up a new Pi3 or 4 (I have both but will eventually go with the 4). My music is stored on a Qnap NAS which Ive managed to mount successfully in PCP. As far as the cache files are concerned I believe I have the following options 1. Leave them in their default location somewhere on the system SD card. But I assume this breaks one of the perceived benefits of PCP in that it exists in memory and only accesses the SD on bootup. 2. Try and move the cache files to the Qnap NAS. Ive tried this and at the moment it breaks LMS which refuses to then work until I move the files back to the SD card and reboot. Im not sure this is the best solution though as, even if I can get it working, I assume there will be a performance hit with the cache having to be read across the network? 3. I utilise a smallish USB stick on the Pi3 and use it purely for the cache files? Im assuming option 3 is probably the best but involves more hardware. I have some experience with Max2Play where I think the cache files are just stored on the SD card. Is it really a big deal either way? Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS on Raspberry Pi4
Hi Guys Sorry for the confusion I may have caused with my earlier post. Just to be clear, the Geekworm case I purchased was designed for the Pi4 and fits like a glove with all ports being accessable. It also seems to significantly reduce the idle temperature of my Pi4. They also make a version with a fan which will probably be even more effective if you don't mind the slight noise pollution. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS on Raspberry Pi4
Morning All Ive just discovered this thread so I thought Id chime in with my Pi4/LMS experience. I have been running LMS (Max2Play) on a Pi3 for a about 18 months and its worked very well. The music is stored on a Nas and I regularly use the Spotty and iPlayer plugins. Id say that there were sometimes small delays when browsing through my music collection but never anything to worry about. However, when the Pi4 was released temptation got the better of me so I went ahead and purchased the 4gb version. I loaded up Max2Play (v2.5 beta) and away it went although this time feeling a good deal quicker than before. I havent carried out any specific measurements but Id say the scanning isnt much quicker than with the Pi3 which I guess is a limitation of the Nas arrangement I have. The day to day browsing is quicker though. Im not sure whether the extra memory (4gb) is making a big difference or not, I have tweaked the Database Memory Config in the Performance tab of LMS so perhaps the extra capacity is being used? I store my Pi4 in a smallish cupboard which also houses my Nas, a network switch and also my broadband fibre modem. This creates a fairly warm environment for the Pi4. Initially I didnt buy any kind of case and opted to see how it operated naked. Running purely as an LMS server it showed a temperature of around 62c at idle. This number was taken from the Max2Play settings/reboot screen so I assume it to be accurate. This seemed a bit high for my liking so I looked around for a case without a fan as I didnt want to create any more noise. I settled on this cheapo case . 27939 Which is availible 'here' (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32962800319.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.66147dd3MCC4rT_pvid=df0b32f6-50ad-4c05-a5cc-90b1aaf7cfd8_expid=df0b32f6-50ad-4c05-a5cc-90b1aaf7cfd8-1=1fba5b47-262d-483e-89ba-e23a3711d987_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_1,searchweb201603_52http://) It is also available on Amazon but I opted to import it from China (I think) for about £10. Its been successful as the Pi4 now idles at about 48c. So all in all Id say my Pi4 experience has been positive. I should stress that there was no real need to upgrade from the Pi3 as it was working perfectly but thats not really the point Im wondering now how much better it would/could perform if I attach my music files directly to the USB port Cheers Ashley +---+ |Filename: geekworm2.jpg| |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=27939| +---+ acanning's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13303 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110838 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
