I'm able to open the control panel! I guess it was the most recent update, 8.1.2, that resolved the issue for me. I am having the exact same issue with Control Panel not starting up/disappearing. Windows Server Essentials 2016 VMware VM Problem happens both in console and via RDP session. Thanks in advance.
