Do I understand that now, all genres are selected, and will remain selected as new genres are added and automatically selected during the nightly rescan? This would obviate the need to run this command again. The scan doesn't care about that setting. Doubting Thomas that I am, I just had to try this. I added a new album to my library, I made up a new genre name for this album "testgenre". My Music/Random Mix had no genres selected. Did a scan for new and changed media files. I'll try issuing the CLI command and see how that works for me. After that, new genres being checked by default should be ok. Here's what I learned this morning, when my 6:00 AM alarm triggered a new "Random songs", replacing the "Random songs" that had been playing through the night. The overnight rescan created a small addition to the library. It was one compilation album that contained four genres. The alarm-triggered "Random songs" only played this one new addition to the library. Upon investigation, I found that in My Music>Random mix, only the genres contained in the compilation were checked. Scrolling to the bottom of the genre list and clicking "Select All", then selecting "Select None", then starting a new "Random songs" playlist fixes the problem. This, to me confirms that having no genres checked allows "Random Mix" to use all genres. The null set is not the same as checking a blank check box or the "No genre" check box. I can use this information to manually correct the problem after each instance of new music being added to the library during a rescan. It would be better to find a way for brand new genres (yes, there are now 3,983 genres) not to be automatically checked on the list. That would eliminate the issue entirely. On DSTM generally - do you also have LastMix installed ? With this installed you get a focused dynamically generated playlist which isn't random at all but instead is based on what you have been playing. Unless last night's rescan put the genre count over some limit, it's a red herring. Yes, the tags aren't optimal. My concern has only to do with what changed since yesterday. Whatever the genre count was yesterday, it presented no problems. I think you mentioned DSTM at some point. There's an option to have DSTM play random tracks based on the currently playing tracks. This would indeed trigger Random Play with a sub-set of genres. I thought I did this without changing the active selection. But tbh. I'm not sure any more. It certainly did change it at some point... I never unchecked them, or had to check them before. Is there a way I can tell it to use all 3,979 of them without manually checking them? Another data point: When I go to the player's settings for "Don't Stop The Music" and change it from Random Songs to Song Mix, DSTM works properly. Also, I have a 6:00AM alarm that plays random songs. All through the night last night, random songs was fine. This behavior began when it kicked in a new random songs playlist when the alarm triggered it (the purpose is a change from 66% volume to 100% volume). I went and selected an album to play and the "Don't Stop The Music" random playlist that followed it exhibits the same bad behavior. I use random song mix about 99% of the time. I've never seen this behavior before. I have a large library. Random Songs is only getting tracks from a tiny subset of them. It looks like just the most recent New Music is included. That's unclear because this past week I set up a new server and scanned in the whole library without the use of any previous databases. It was fine till this morning, when this started happening. I looked at last night's rescan for new and changed files and it looks like it ran fine.
