This is possibly an iTunes issue, but posting here in case others have
experienced it and can help - can't find anything about it in Google
searches.

My Logitech Media Server's source is an iTunes library and directory
structure with a mixture of CDs scanned into iTunes as ALAC lossless,
iTunes store downloads, plus some downloads from other digital download
stores. I have Soundcheck (album gain) turned on to keep relative volume
levels similar in iTunes and on my iPod. My LMS is set to Smart Gain
accordingly.

All works well, except digital downloads from Bandcamp and Qobuz. These
are ALAC, but when played in my LMS and devices (Touch, Radio, Receiver)
and iPod, they always come up really loud compared to everything else.
It's like iTunes/LMS just doesn't bother paying attention to the RMS
value of these downloads, instead playing them at full whack. It's left
me wondering if Qobuz and Badncamp have pre-tagged RMS/Soundcheck levels
that iTunes can't overwrite when the files are imported - and therefore
LMS can't read either - but I've no evidence to support this. It's
something that's bugged me for years, but I really want to find a
solution now, as it can be really annoying when one or two tracks in a
carefully compiled playlist startle me by being what seems like twice as
loud as the others!

Any ideas as to how I can prevent this?

Thanks

My setup:

- LMS 7.9.1-168 running on Synology D218+ connected to Wi-Fi router
  via LAN cable
- 1 x Squeezebox Touch, 2 x Squeezebox Radios, 1 x Squeezebox Receiver
- all connecting over Wi-Fi
- LMS library either ALAC Apple Lossless (scanned in on iTunes) or
  ACC/M4A 256kbps downloads from iTunes
