Potentially we would need to have a solution inside LMS that tries to
te-establish a connection when it fails. A bit like what I did for RP,
but more generalized, so something above the HTTP object, rather than
under like I did. Would not solve stuttering but would help for
disconnects.

LMS 7.7, 7.8 and 7.9 - 5xRadio, 3xBoom, 4xDuet, 1xTouch, 1 SB2. Sonos
PLAY:3, PLAY:5, Marantz NR1603, JBL OnBeat, XBoxOne, XBMC, Foobar2000,
ShairPortW, JRiver 21, 2xChromecast Audio, Chromecast v1 and v2, , Pi
B3, B2, Pi B+, 2xPi A+, Odroid-C1, Odroid-C2, Cubie2, Yamaha WX-010,
AppleTV 4, Airport Express, GGMM E5

If OP can say what stream they are trying to play perhaps others can
look at it and radio-browser - to compare.

If you can find the underlying stream URL that they are both using ... I
suspect you might find that they are different even though it is the
same radio station.
If you can persuade both players to play the same stream URL then you
would probably get the same result unless one has bugs or does not
support the same codecs.

Funny thing is when I use the original tunein radio android app the
stream has hick Ups, mostly in the afternoon while when using radiodroid
at the same moment there is no problem.
When tunein radio app has a problem this is also when playing via lms.
Sobthats why I was wondering about adding the source of radiodroid to
lms, expecting to solve the stuttering. But perhaps that's not the
case

*SqueezeBoxes:* 1x Transporter (Living room) 1x SB2 (shed), 1x Radio
(Kitchen), 1x Boom (Dining room), 1x piCorePlayer (jacuzzi), 1x

(Study 2), few spare unit's
*Server:* LMS on Pi3 7.9.1. on PcP 3.21
*Network:* AVM Fritzbox, Netgear Smart Switch 24p, 3x Ubiquity

The is an open source music library music browser
http://www.radio-browser.info/gui/#!/ that can be used via Android
radiodroid.
Would it be possible to integrate this source as a counterpart to tuning
radio?

It's indeed something which I've had in my mind as an alternative for a
while now. But it won't solve your streaming issues. It's really just a
directory of stations (as is TuneIn), but not the streaming service itself.

That looks very doable

https://de1.api.radio-browser.info/

Note ... TuneIn (like the Radio Browser service you linked to) provides
the stream URL and which is then used to access the radio station
directly. So breaks or stuttering etc are not caused directly by TuneIn
(except where there might be a different stream URL that performs
better).
