For read-write functionality one like to have a central database server, and I would recommend this as well for better performance. Re: [SR-Users] Via header, branch parameter and syn_branch
Am Donnerstag, 23. Mai 2013, 11:12:20 schrieb Richard Brady: The syn_branch global parameter results in the use of a synonym branch parameter in the Via header for statelessly forwarded requests as a performance optimisation. This was originally done by setting branch=0 which, while not strictly compliant with 3261 (8.1.1.7 and 16.6 item 8), would not cause any problems with a downstream proxy or UA compliant to either 3261 or 2543 since it does not contain the cookie and is therefore self-evidently not guaranteed to be unique. Then a patch was added (commit ebb3b08) to change it from branch=0 to branch=z9hG4bKcydzigwkX which includes the cookie, thus declaring itself to be unique when it clearly is not. This takes the optimisation too far as it deliberately misleads downstream proxies with regard to the uniqueness of the parameter and breaks the mechanism in 17.2.3 for identifying unreliable (non-unique) branch parameters for transaction matching which should then fall back to header inspection but does not. The result is that unrelated requests can be identified as duplicates of each other. Also note 3261 section 16.11 on Stateless Proxy behaviour: The requirement for unique branch IDs across space and time applies to stateless proxies as well. Has the commit above introduced a bug and should it be reverted? And should the next major release have a default of syn_branch=0? Since with syn_branch=1 the branch=0 version has been known to cause interop issues in the past (see below) and I can confirm the branch=z9hG4bKcydzigwkX version causes interop issues in the present. Hi Leo, maybe the originating gateway user agent is not configured correctly. Normally one does not need to modify the Contact header for this functionality. The originating user agent needs to learn the route set that he should follow and specify then this the respective Route headers. Take a look to this example on how it works in detail: http://www.in2eps.com/fo-sip/tk-fo-sip-dialog.html BTW, if your proxy on the path also needs to honour Route sets you need to use also the loose_route function in rr module. When the MVNO carrier issues a BYE to the outbound carrier, the outbound carrier does not then receive this packet as they are firewalled (and always will be). What is the correct method of relaying calls through Kamailio but not passing on the Contact: header info? I have read that forcing a change of Contact is not the right way. Hello, if you want to ensure that your kamailio stays on the path of the dialog for following requests you probably want to use record-route headers for this. This is usally done with the rr module, record_route() function. To quote from iptel.org: [A] Mechanism by which a proxy can inform user agents that it wishes to stay on the path of all further messages is called record routing. Such a proxy would insert Record-Route header field into SIP messages which contain address of the proxy. Messages sent within a dialog will then traverse all SIP proxies that put a Record-Route header field into the message. The recipient of the request receives a set of Record-Route header fields in the message. It must mirror all the Record-Route header fields into responses because the originator of the request also needs to know the set of proxies. Hi Dragos, (setting sr-users to CC) Ok, If you’ve set this by other means you need to set the appropriate “Kamailio” type flag to the value as well, that Kamailio can parse it correctly. You can get the appropriate value if you grep for “VAR_VAL_STR” in the source code. Your perl script function call should also export the appropriate flag setting from the memcache library function call, then just add it here. You can send me the patch directly then I can review it, give you feedback and integrate it then to the master branch. Thanks and regards, Henning The structure is very much the same as before, but I think it is more than a small patch. There is certainly potential for new bugs! I do plan to add multi-server support at some point and I am happy to maintain/bug fix where necessary. Also happy to update the documentation. We have indeed used the module in the past with no issues - so thank you for writing and sharing :) Very happy to stay with existing PVs if possible. The only thing I'd like to see different is to set value and expiry at the same time, instead of having to set value, then alter expiration. This has to be better than setting a value with some default expiry, getting that same value back again, then re-setting the value once more with a different expiry? Could this be implemented at PV level? Something like $mct(key:expiry) = value? And if expiry is omitted, we use default set in params. Hi Charles, thanks, good to know that you use it. :-) With regards to the expiry value, yes I think this could be implemented like this. Just one remark, the syntax that other PVs uses is =, like in http://www.kamailio.org/wiki/cookbooks/3.3.x/pseudovariables#sht_htable_key Then it would be $mct(key=expiry) = value Best regards, Henning Westerholt ___ SIP Express Router (SER) and Kamailio (OpenSER) - sr-users mailing list sr-users@lists.sip-router.org http://lists.sip-router.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/sr-users

IMHO support should be added then. Floating point (on digitial equipment) is not suitable nor acceptable (it might even be illegal in some jurisdictions) for accounting. I really wonder why DOUBLE support is(/would be) present in a SIP proxy. Hi Alex, good question - I guess as workaround for a lack of DECIMAL in old open source database versions. If double is not correct for you, what about just storing the milliseconds as INT value e.g. 12,3s = 123 in the DB? Why try to invent a workaround? Fixed point number types are part of SQL92: NUMERIC(precision, scale). I think something similar is used related to the 'q' value for contacts, the respective field in the location table is also floating point. http://devel.kamailio.org/doxygen/QvalueHandling.html BTW, only db_mysql and db_unixodbc currently support DECIMAL value for read, db_mysql evaluates it to DB1_STRING, db_unixodbc to DB1_INT. I know. You committed the fix for MySQL yourself after my bugreport, see commit b74e6f6. Yes, I also looked it up. :-) Just wanted to give some context about the current support in the DB API. Internal representation as string is ok as long as calculations are not necessary. Alternatively a scaled integer could be used internally. We have around 20K entries on the Number Translation Service and around 3M entries on the Number portability Service. The volume is around 100 caps. Hello Yaron, I have started working with the carrierroute module - it seems perfect for the Number translation Service, but I am not sure about the Number portability. I have several questions: 1. Is it possible to use this module with several millions of entries? 2. What is the impact of loading the table? Is it possible to do it during traffic hours? It should be possible to use cr with several million of entries, just keep in mind to increase the shared memory settings somewhat, 1024MB should be probably a good start. I know from some reports that people use it successfully in a scenario with millions of entries as well. Its of course possible to do the data reloading during traffic, you'll just need the double amount of RAM. ;-) The reason for this is that the module discard the old data only after the successful loading of the new data. I have read about PDB module, but I haven't understood how to setup the PDB server. I would appreciate for any guidance. Would you recommend using the PDB module for the Number Portability or the carrierroute? The PDB module is from the setup a bit more complicated, but has lower performance requirements and can be placed on a dedicated server. It was written especially for number portability. Basically it works that you setup the server module (pdbd) on some machine and feed it with a precompiled data file. There is a small compiler (pdbt) to create this mapping file from text data. You then use the pdb module in your configuration to get the carrier ID for a number and do your routing accordingly in the script, e.g. with cr. You find the tool in the utils/pdbt dir in sr. But for the performance requirements you quoted I'd look also into another scenario - what about just storing this data in a normal database and querying it with sqlops? If you give the DB enough RAM it should be also fast enough. Hello Yaron, I liked the idea of having several instances of SIP-ROUTERs which are independent of each other- I understand that cr answers it. Indeed, this is one advantage of using an in-memory cache. But you probably need some more DB access on the servers for things like authentication. I have another question - I was trying to add alpha-numeric character into the cr prefix and it seems it is not supported. We are using 'D' prefixes in our network in order to route between different elements in the network. Is there a way to support it? Maybe another routing module? The cr module support also a extended matching mode, but it will be probably not really feasible with millions of routes: http://kamailio.org/docs/modules/stable/modules/carrierroute.html#id2651893 Another thing you could do is use another domain for the D prefix, e.g. one for the default routing, and then another one for the D case. The module support matching for the domain as well. You could maybe also use flags for matching. Other possible modules for PSTN routing are lcr and mtree. Hi Juha, this is the result of the different server design for UDP and TCP. For TCP AFAIK one main dispatcher accepts all the connections and then distribute them to the workers. For UDP the workers listen directly on the (one) network socket, so there is no dispatcher. It looks like a waste of resources, but its from a implementation POV much easier.
