Re: [Stoves] Thoughts from ETHOS meeting ending yesterday

2014-01-27 Thread Tom Miles
Ron,

Many people who have usually attended ETHOS are familiar with this list and
go on and off the list depending on their needs. For some the list is just
too demanding to keep up with daily but we can reach them easily. We might
invite some in if we are discussing a topic that matches their interest or
expertise.

There is substantial expertise on this list. While the web tools have
improved the common element of online communication in the developing world
is still email. GACC could mirror this list on their site if they were
interested in reaching the active GACC membership.

Tom, Crispin, list;

The 5-way organizational credit probably should go to Mark Bryden. I
wished I had taken notes. I did the write up today only because I knew I
would lose it all otherwise. Hopefully some who were there can correct and
amend - before we decide what to do next. We all put our own slant on things
that interest us and everyone's write-up will reflect who we talked to. Out
of 100 there, I probably only talked to 20-25. Many will tomorrow start a
few days at Aprovecho. Maybe they (Paul Andersion, Alexis Belonio, Christa
Roth, Kirk Harris, etc.) can add to what I wrote. Unfortunately probably
fewer that half there are subscribers to "stoves".

I'd like to hear whether others thought the stove world is moving fast
enough right now. A doubling time (of sales) of 1 year (maybe a little
less) is damn good. I think a lot of the credit goes to GACC. But growth
like that also takes time to get started - and Tom Miles gets a lot of
credit for funding this list now since late 1995. No commensurate income!

As usual any topic someone wants to put to the group is welcome. We could
start by listing the topics of greatest interest for discussion over the
next 10 weeks and see how it goes.

Thanks to Ron for bringing us all an excellent snapshot of the conference.

Dear Ron

My compliments for breaking things into relevant sections. Very
understandable. It would be nice to have a new discussion session here per
week with a new topic each Monday. There is much to report from around the
world one each of these items, both major and minor.

Thanks

Crispin

Thanks Tom

I think it is a good idea. If there is interest, topics will branch into
useful territory.

BTW Harold Annegarn and I forwarded our contribution to the documents for
circulation - it was a follow-up to last year's presentation on metrics.
This year we provided a set of definitions as our contribution to the GACC
effort to develop a common lexicon. Look for it in the circulated
documentation (or on the web).

Crispin
