Hi Simon--unfortunately I won't be able to make it this Saturday, but I
really would like to hear the outcome of the tests. Could we move the
meeting to later that day, say around 2pm EST?

 display all the connection errors. How is the best way to show this?

I'd recommend showing one or more buttons for dismissing the error and
taking any other relevant actions within the palette. Clicking on the
text label likely won't be very discoverable. For instance, this
error might have two normal buttons for Cancel and Show Settings
(assuming something in settings can be adjusted to improve the
situation; I don't know enough about what this error means).

[Sugar-devel] Automake-fu question

2010-02-19 Thread Andrés Ambrois
Hello list!

To provide mobile-broadband-provider-info support for the 3G feature, I need
to parse some system files, namely /usr/share/zoneinfo/iso3166.tab and
/usr/share/mobile-broadband-provider-info/serviceproviders.xml.  In order for
packagers to override those locations I created a config.py.in file that looks
like this:

PROVIDERS_PATH = @prefix@/share/mobile-broadband-provider-
info/serviceproviders.xml
PROVIDERS_FORMAT_SUPPORTED = 2.0
COUNTRY_CODES_PATH = @prefix@/share/zoneinfo/iso3166.tab

Which is then converted by a make rule in Makefile.am into config.py. I
understand this is the recommended approach when using autotools [0].

One of the problems is that this breaks jhbuild, because it uses
--prefix=/path/to/jhbuild/install. The other is that by default @prefix@
expands
to /usr/local/, which is not the usual location for these files.

The full patch is [1], if you're interested.

Cheers!

Re: [Sugar-devel] Setting public key - gitorious

2010-02-19 Thread Art Hunkins
James,

The Git chapter in your manual is excellent, and I've learned a lot from it.
It presents a coherent, continuous view of the subject, and is very
readable. It should be grasped by anyone with a modest acquaintance of
things Linux. (Unfortunately, I'm not quite there yet. My problem is that
I'm still not conversant in the language.)

One of my challenges is that I've been using the Nano editor rather than one
more fully-featured. OTOH, I'm also doing most things on the XO-1 and wanted
(also perhaps wrongly) to keep things as simple and minimal as possible.

I think my basic push/pull problem was that I had confused my own activity
versions, and had tried to push a version that had *no changes* from the
current git posting. (I presume that would give the error message I got as
well.) Yes, on your suggestion and Aleksey's, I added the pull first. At any
rate, when I committed some actual *changes*, the error disappeared - only
to show the remaining ssh key issue.

Maybe *some* day -- (and thanks for your help and wonderful tutorial)

Re: [Sugar-devel] Setting public key - gitorious

2010-02-19 Thread Art Hunkins
When I key in (literally):
git config remote.origin.url
I get nothing but the commandline back.

I am an admin for the our-music activity (maintainer - only person listed).

I corresponded with tech support for gitorious some time ago when having
this (permission denied) problem. I sent my IP address (verified several
times - it does not change), and the tech said it wasn't blacklisted and
that he couldn't even find it in his log.

Where to go from here?

Not really, it probably means you created that repository locally rather
than clone from a remote one.

Try cloning from a remote one, see if you get the same result.

Repositories are just copies of each other, normally.

No idea if this addresses your main task, I was just replying regarding
remote.origin.url.

[Sugar-devel] Font display revisited

2010-02-19 Thread Art Hunkins
I am perplexed (nothing unusual).

I use the following recommended code to determine default font size for
various versions of the XO and SoaS:
font = widget.get_pango_context().get_font_description()
font_size = font.get_size()

Recognizing that 1024 pango units = 1 point in font size, the various
distributions furnish the following values:
XO-1, 7168 = 7pt. and displays at 7pts.
Strawberry, 10240 = 10pt., but displays at 7pts.
Blueberry, 10240 = 10pt., displaying correctly at 10pts.
Latest release, 0.87.3 (Generic Release 12), 10240, but displays at
approximately 7.5pts.

In other words, SoaS releases with the same pango font description (= what
we are urged to deal with rather than font sizes directly) display on the
same monitor very differently. I think surely that the same pango
description should display about the same (width-wise at least) for a given
monitor, regardless of release.

What particularly confuses me is that the latest release nearly reverts to
the Strawberry sizing, which was clearly too small for an average monitor.
Do we need to anticipate that each new version of SoaS will effectively give
a different default display size, even when pango contexts are identical?

This makes no sense whatever to me. It gives the developer little control
over text display at all, with the possible exception of furnishing
different code for each incarnation of SoaS. (This is what I'm currently
doing - but I'd rather this not be a lifelong task.)

This means that you don't have any link to remote repo, thus can't push.
So, just clone new copy and use it for further coding/pushing.
