2019-04-13 Thread Jaskirat Singh
Thanks Vipul for taking this up, The funds that were granted by Google for
GSOC ( I guess ) remains with the community and it is being controlled by
SFC of which Sugar Labs is a member project.
I see that Sumit initiated about swags, but maybe it might not have been
made to move further due to absence of the budget proposal.

So if anyone of us can try working on proposal for marketing along with a
marketing team that would be great and would become easy for Board to
review and add up their decisions.

Re: [Sugar-devel] GSoC 2019; Selection of Mentors and Projects

2019-04-07 Thread Jaskirat Singh
Hi,

Thanks for your opinion. We have been participating since last 9 years, I
guess in GSOC and other related programs and Walter has been doing great
job controlling the projects, students and mentors.
I think this Google also don't segregate about "Coding Mentors" and
"Assistant Mentors" what we have done. I agree with walter that every
project has different aspects and need various role people like Designer,
Tester, Coder, etc.
If google doesn't do then I think we too should not imply these thing,
that's embarrassing for the people who don't code but are doing great job
by putting their efforts in various other fields like testing, designing.
And if you think that Sugarlabs has suppose 10 projects and 2-3 people can
handle all those projects by mentoring then I think they should be good to
go and 2-3 people can mentor all projects why other volunteers needed.
("for which google does allows only 1 project per mentor")

I don't know in what way we are trying to shape the things. Community has
changed from last year GSOC Hope to see community getting back to the
previous roles.

Thanks

Welcome to the Sugar Labs community. Yes you can use gitter and IRC
channels of sugar to communicate with rest of community members and mentors
as stated by Sumit, but make sure its always appreciable to carry
converstaion in public unless it is personal because that will help to
involve others in discussion amd you would be able to recieve better
feedback.

I guess our priority should be Virtual documentation too. Since creating
demonstration videos of activities can rely help users to know how to
proceed. And I think this will improve the usage of Sugar too.

Moreover, Walter
This year GSOC Summit we had a new introduction about Open source season of
doc that is also a program major focused only on doc alongside with gsoc
and this gonna be live from next year.
I think this will be our good chance to outreach in terms of writing.

Thanks

Well in the previous GCI, I created a wiki page to collect all the design
related promotional work of GCI student in this wiki
https://wiki.sugarlabs.org/go/Marketing_Team/Marketing_Materials
So I would suggest that if you can paste all the designs here so that they
could be kept on the wiki record too.

This initiative is good amd i think there should be some changing of schema

So is it possible to conduct meeting on Thursday same time or prepone the
meeting time as i guess no Indian can attend the meeting at tgis time due
to late mid night.
So it would be great if this meeting can be rechedule either one day before
or prepone the time.

appropriate path to the new contributors.

[Sugar-devel] Live event of Turtle Blocks organised in India

2018-04-28 Thread Jaskirat Singh
Hello everyone !

Thanks James ! for suggesting this to write it here.
Well after great discussion with Walter Bender and Computer Department
teachers here, I and Walter Bender organised a seminar in the Sacred Heart
Convent School, Jagadhri, Haryana, India about Turtle Blocks where he was
live from USA through Video Call.
Though the event was of short duration but we covered most of the things
and students were quite active in understanding it and in putting up their
queries.
Earlier Teachers were not sure that if students will act upon this seminar
but later they were so attracted that they decided to have some more events
like this ..! And i was quite happy at that time.
So special thanks to Walter Bender who spared his sleeping time to talk to
students.
Walter Bender now its time to organise a broad base workshop in India which
will involve everyone to participate and also will keep something for
senior students.
Hope he agree to this proposal !
I have attavhed a link to few photographs of the event

Re: [Sugar-devel] GsOC student wants to know his chances

2018-03-31 Thread Jaskirat Singh
Hello Glide !

Yeap, Students are quite exuberant to know their acceptance chance in the
GSOC program but i think Google has already defined the program timeline
and students should wait till 23 April to know their results. Moreover
early time had been already provided to students to gain feedback on their
drafts but know i think it would be unfair to other aspirants.

Thanks

Hello Everyone,

A new project named as " Learn to program in Turtle Art " that was added during GSoC 2012 have been re-added
this time too to the GSoC project list in the wiki. So it would be
appreciable for the interested students who would like to contribute to
this project and come up with good outcome.

[Sugar-devel] Sugar Labs 2018 Goals idea

2018-02-03 Thread Jaskirat Singh
Hello ,

I am Jaskirat Singh, SL community member.
Seeking towards Sugar labs Goals 2018 Well, it will be good to have a
program like showcase Schools , that means we could make an event or
program named as SHOWCASE SUGAR LABS SCHOOLS in which our marketing team
should get involved and target schools , and other educational centers ,
conducting seminars and guiding teachers, getting introduced about the
Sugar labs and how it can be beneficial to them . We could have some type
of achievements in that so that if a particular school satisfy that
criteria will be given a title of SL authorized labs .
Moreover for this we can conduct online competitions . Because as far i
have observed is that schools involve only when they are benefitted in some
way . So it is also necessary to conduct some programs competitions
then only we will be able to promote and spread SL across the globe
...!
So for this The schools which will become SL showcase schools ,will have
those seminars and also later we can make STUDENT EXPERTS in those
particular schools so that those students after going through all the
things in SL will conduct seminars and all other events and teach others
about the things like activities ( music blocks ,turtle, etc) and when they
will tell about this to others then they will seek more users.
But as far i know that this could only be possible if we develop some
program and allow more school comp department teachers to compete in those
( by documentation work that they have to pick an activity or something
related to sugar, use sugar things ,and develop something with help of
those resources and then send to us ...so will go through it and select the
work according to it we can select schools for showcase and also these type
of schools can be given some type of rewards ) i think it will be good to
outreach ...! And yes will be interested too also for this we can go for
special website named as education center for it where users can have
different courses for it and go through it. Even i have started to get SL
introduced in nearby schools.
I hope this idea would work and please feel free to talk about these for
suggestions as well as opinions

Thanks
