Please check how gnome does, using gsettings. Like for example:

gsettings set org.gnome.system.proxy.socks host '192.168.1.1′
gsettings set org.gnome.system.proxy.socks port 8080
gsettings set org.gnome.system.proxy mode ‘manual'

I found there is a simple way (but I didn't try it yet) to make use of
the http_proxy env variable from WebKitGtk:

Hi Manuel,

Attached is a patch that implements this. It works against Browse 146.
A patched bundle can also be found here:
http://sugardextrose.org/issues/2426

It is a very simple implementation that makes Browse use the
http_proxy environment variable in case that it has been set. It is
the only change needed, as the patch for webkit you linked comes
already applied from Fedora.

Cheers,

I would like to know if there's a way to make Browse activity use PROXY

 no luck.

The feature was about to be done for the previous cycle, but was abandoned.

After that, Browse will just get the settings from the system.

La Salvaje Esperanza

Éramos dioses y nos volvieron esclavos.
Éramos hijos del sol y nos consolaron
con medallas de lata.
Éramos poetas y nos pusieron a recitar
oraciones pordioseras.
Éramos felices y nos civilizaron.
Quién refrescará la memoria de la tribu.
Quién revivirá nuestros dioses.
Que la salvaje esperanza siempre sea tuya, querida alma inamansable.

If you configure a proxy in GNOME, Browse picks that up. Not great
but... worked for me.

I think we have to modify Browse to make this possible. I didn't find
anything related with proxy on Browse's code.

Do you know what My settings/Network does?

I found there is a simple way (but I didn't try it yet) to make use of
the http_proxy env variable from WebKitGtk:

 http://lists.macosforge.org/pipermail/webkit-help/2009-December/000475.html

If My settings/Network set that environment variable we can use it,
if no, we need to know what it does and read that value.
