Yes, I will be applying for my visa soon... if it gets approves I’ll be at
FOSDEM as I will also be giving a talk.

I will be more than happy to join the stand for Sugar Labs.

2019-12-17 Thread Vipul Gupta
Thanks Devin, for the vote of confidence. I will get started right on that.
I think planning is needed and as we enter this new decade. It would surely
help out a lot.

Some Updates regarding FOSDEM,
I have forwarded emails containing information about stands received from
FOSDEM to @Alex Perez and @Samson Goddy
as they are both confirmed to go. We also have
tentatively @Peace Ojemeh . I am not sure if I can
make it as I am still looking for a way to reach there. Maybe next year.
Folks for updated information, you can also check this
https://fosdem.org/2020/stands/. Currently, our stand location has been
updated. So, check that out as well. Let me know how I can help more. I
would have forwarded the message from FOSDEM to the list, but its really
long so didn't.

Thanks! Looking forward to helping out!

Hi Vipul,

Thanks for all this.

They most certainly can.

As a new org, with a new set of responsibilities, what we need is the
following:
1. Strategic Planning
  * Where do we see ourselves in 3, 5, and 10 years
  * Marketing Strategy (which can include conferences, etc.)
  * Business Model (what are our revenue sources and how we get them,
what are the inputs and outputs for our resources--time included)
2. A Budget
  * Given our current situation, what can we afford
  * Based on different assumptions, what might we be able to afford if
we meet our goals.

This is a top-down approach. A bottom-up approach is "I found an
awesome opportunity, let's go for it." I have found, through my
experience, that both are important.

We should come up with a budget and allocate resources for things like
conferences, which I think we all agree are important. However, I
advocate strongly that it be in the context of a larger plan.

Whoever wants to help us with these tasks, I am all for hearing your
input.

Re: [Sugar-devel] Regarding Stand at FOSDEM [1-2 February]

2019-12-05 Thread Vipul Gupta
Thanks, James, I went through the logs. I concur with the views put forward
by MrBIOS and Samson. I think conferences help. Not all of them. But, they
do matter. Conferences put Sugar Labs out there in front of the world,
leads to interesting discussions and new collaborations. As Walter also
mentioned,

Music Blocks in Japan is from a conference interaction

I think, this is important and we shoud be more encouraging in doing it. I
am the one who has been proposing and applying to conferences for about
most part this year. I have been informing on the list once the proposal is
accepted or finalised. I understand I should be informing whenever I apply
proactively. I will start doing that. PyCon US was a good initiative. I am
happy that active contributors and board members were there (I couldn't
make it) and represented Sugar Labs. Regarding funding, that I would leave
the SLOB to decide on case by case basis. It would really help out if
people can suggest other conferences as well and move forward in a planned
manner.

Looking forward to helping out in the preperations for FOSDEM!

Best,
Vipul Gupta

2019-12-03 Thread ANIKET MATHUR
G'day everyone,
Being an active contributor to Sugar Labs for almost a year and an
open-source enthusiast, it would be a great opportunity for me to
participate in FOSDEM from Sugar Labs.
I would love to know how I can make it happen. What is expected from me and
what help can I get from Sugar Labs?

Thanks,
Regards,
Aniket Mathur

Re: [Sugar-devel] Regarding Stand at FOSDEM [1-2 February]

2019-12-03 Thread James Cameron
Hello Shubhika,

Sugar Labs has roughly $85 to $90k USD in cash, with most income
arising from Google Summer of Code and Google Code-in. The oversight
board is responsible for allocating the cash, and we have tended to
focus on things that have a clear return on investment.

So funding would depend on what you plan to do for Sugar Labs, based
largely on what you have previously done for Sugar Labs.

However, you can certainly get involved in conferences, design,
coding, and fixing without funding.

Hi everyone!
I am Shubhika Bhardwaj. I am been a part of the SugarLabs community for a
while.I am begining my journey in open source.

Can the students contributers from the SugarLabs participate in FOSDEM?

Is there a scholarship or travel reimbursement for FOSDEM?

Great! Someone please prepare for meeting with total funding, what we
expect to be the benefit, and what sort of coordination is required by
the oversight board?
