Re: Sundials in cinema
The dial and the trees show two shadows from different light sources. Would it give too much away to explain why that is? -Bill On Sun, Dec 18, 2011 at 5:36 PM, Darek Oczki dhar...@o2.pl wrote: Dear friends I've got two news for those interested in sundials in movies. 1. In the very beginning of the latest movie by Lars von Trier (Melancholia) there is a nice scene shoving a close view of a horizontal sundial. Screenshot attached. Later it appears in the film several times more but only from a distance. 2. There is an Indian movie comapany Sundial Pictures. They have an interesting sundial animation used as their motion logo. Re: Sundials in cinema
The two light sources are the whole point of the movie! So I shan't say more. BTW, it's a visually stunning piece of work, though a bit bizarre in other respects. RE: Sundials in cinema
Dear Darek, The Sundial Pictures animation is quite dramatic. Wow!But the Melancholia screen shot is weirdly (or purposefully) constructed so that each shrub has TWO shadows at the same moment! Sara 42°36'N 71° 22'W West Newton, MA 02465 --- https://lists.uni-koeln.de/mailman/listinfo/sundial
Re: Calendar 2012: The Most Beautyful Sundials of the French Alps
Hi Darek, This is a great calendar. Thanks for making it available. What is the price for a copy shipped to Canada? Perhaps a email attachment would work? I can place most of these sundials except for Feb, Mar, May, August. Most of these look like recent Remy Potey designs. I will have to go back again as I have ignored Remy Potey and concentrated on Zarbula. His are still the best. My Google Map link for Zarbula's sundial is http://g.co/maps/9s7cd . Or go to www.tinyurl.com/ZarbulaSundials . The Google Earth kml file is attached. This is better as it shows the rugged terrain in the Zarbula Zone of the Alps. They all link to pictures and location data for all of Zarbula's sundials that have survived, some restored since his time, 1830 to 1876.
