[SunRay-Users] Sun Ray 1 - No display amber light
Hi Everyone One of our ancient Sun Ray 1s has died. I'm not getting a display out of it and the power light is staying amber. I've tried different monitors, keyboards mice with no change. Is there anything else I can try or has it finally died? Sun Ray 1s have been in the $20/ea range on eBay for at least two years now; doesn't really make much sense to spend much time on it...just replace it. The old units have an issue with the bulk capacitors on the power supply getting cooked and then popping. Open up the unit and look for some tall cylindrical capacitors next to the metal heat sink on the power supply board, not the logic board. There should be an X on the top of those caps, and they should be flat. The ones that have popped are probably bulging outward like a bag of stove-top popcorn. You'll need to replace those with ones rated for higher temps than what is there (like 85C or above if those are rated for 70C). It's a quick and cheap fix, if you can find the high-temp caps. Hope this helps. Dave ___ SunRay-Users mailing list SunRay-Users@filibeto.org http://www.filibeto.org/mailman/listinfo/sunray-users
[SunRay-Users] Sun Directory Server 5.2 and a Ubuntu 8.04 OpenLDAP as replica?
Before I start getting to carried away I wanted to ask the group the feasibility of getting this working. My company has two offices. Both offices are running Solaris 10 SunRay installations. One office houses our Sun Directory Server 5.2 which all SunRays in both offices use. The second office does all it's LDAP stuff over our VPN. I would like to setup a replica LDAP server. I am in the second office and already have a Ubuntu 8.04 box up and running and I would like to avoid the costs of getting more hardware to run a 2nd Sun Directory Server in my location. I guess I have two questions Can an OpenLDAP server act as a replica to a Sun Directory Server 5.2? Can SRSS use an OpenLDAP server? Using SRSS 4.0 on Solaris 10 on v20z servers if any of that matters. ___ SunRay-Users mailing list SunRay-Users@filibeto.org http://www.filibeto.org/mailman/listinfo/sunray-users
