In the past 10 years the Sun Ray hardware capabilities were always ahead
of the software capabilities.

Which is a good thing since software can be updated much more easily.
So I can imagine that SRS 4.2 does not stretch the Sun Rayn 3 Plus to
its limits.
In order to see the full performance you will probably need the next SRS
version.

2 monitors, not 4.

Perhaps you're misinterpreting the dual-link DVI capability.
Dual-link means that the SR3+ can spread pixel data over a pair of
data lines on the DVI connector. This is what allows it to drive a
2560x1600 monitor while staying within the clock rate limit of DVI.
It does not mean that you can attach 2 monitors to each DVI output.

The SR3+ has only a dinky little built-in speaker. The grilles on
the side are vents for (passive) airflow, needed because the SR3+ can
consume more power than the 2FS.

If the 3+ sounds better it's probably because those vents let the
sound get out better than the unvented case of the 2FS did. But
anyone who really cares about audio quality will still want to use
headphones or external speakers.
