[freenet-support] Re: Setting up freenet - no connection to the

2004-09-01 Thread Newsbyte
Maybe somebody should update the sourceforge project site:

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=978package_id=973

I took 0.5.2.1-Release.

Indeed!

I noticed before that, there, it still shows an obsolete version. I've
mentionned this before too, but, ah, regulars know how it goes around here
and will not be surprised.

Ian or toad or some other devl should update it, asap. This means, if you're
lucky, that it will be updated in a month or two ;-)

 I had over 4000 keys before last restart, and after restart it's 2500 keys and
 500MB less than it was before (space used by temporary files before restart was
 20MB). Can someone explain this?

Hmmm. How many MB was the total of the store? And is the size for
store/temp/ ? Did you check that on the actual filesystem e.g. with du?

 The Node info page shows Rejecting incoming connections and requests! all the

 It worked before the reinstall with the same versions of software (current

 this time !?!?!

 My firewall is rejecting a lot of requests to the old port but my new
 installation is running on a different port this time so as not to be misstaken
 for the freenet installation that was lost with the krashed HD.

[freenet-support] Cant connect

2004-09-01 Thread Phill
Hi there
Im new to Freenet and I am not having any
success in accessing any of the links @ http://localhost:.
I get the following error when clicking a link.
-

Couldn't retrieve key: [EMAIL PROTECTED]/TFE//
Hops To Live: 15

Error: Route Not Found

Attempts were made to contact 1 nodes.

  * 0 were totally unreachable.
  * 1 restarted.
  * 0 cleanly rejected.
  * 8 backed off.
Route Not Found messages mean that your node, or the rest of the
network, didn't find the data or enough nodes to send the request to.
You should retry, with the same Hops-To-Live; if it persists, there may
be a problem (check that your internet connection is working). Try
reseeding your node, and if that doesn't work, contact
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Im not sure what all this means, any help would be appreciated.

Best regards
Phill.

Re: [freenet-support] Is this a problem?

Believe me.. I have tried. The probable cause is that something somewhere
forgets to close a file it is holding... I haven't managed to find out
eactly what code it is though.

Hmm. Since they don't happen on windows, they don't get debugged..
Unless you want to have a crack at them Iakin?

 I'm sure you are trying to do your best. But i'm growing tired of trying

Do you leave your node running 24/7?

How big is your datastore? (Huge datastore means your node gets a
reputation for being able to satisfy requests, hence other nodes will
want to connect to you).

Do you leave frost running? (Running frost is a good way to get your
node integrated into the network, perhaps because your frost sends out
lots of requests for short files. The short files get cached on your
node. Your node satisfies requests for them from other frost users
quickly. Your node gets a good reputation).
