Figured it out. This should be:

  /etc/init.d/halt stop

 or simply

 shutdown -h now

Or most simple:

halt

Re: [debian] navit

2009-02-02 Thread arne anka
I couldn't find any either so I built my own with

 http://iki.fi/lindi/openmoko/navit.txt

well, at least the conversion to debian structure is an unnecessary step
-- the navit page links to two repos holding navit (for x86, though) with
diff/dsc/orig.tar.gz.
you need to modify the configure call in debian/rules to disable all taht
unneeded stuff (wince, floating points), but after that it's pretty
straight forward.

It worked perfect, until the night the battery dies. Do you think it
could die by just lying around connected to a powered PC.

The first time I bricked mine all was working OK until I need to reboot the

I was working with a / on uSD.
I needed a file a knew it was on NAND but in u-boot but I didn't pass the
correct mtdparts to the kernel and mountend mtdblock I'm not sure if readonly
took the file and unmounted mtdblock, two days latter at a reboot I found I
had bricked it.

I'd second the endorsement of SHR-unstable. TangoGPS works great (as long
as your clock is correctly set, including timezone) and phone functions
work acceptably well. Wifi seems broken in the most recent (Jan29 IIRC)
images, hoping that is resolved again soon. notepad - there're a handful
of simple text editors around, I can't suggest one offhand. I've not yet
managed to get navit working with SHR-unstable though, so GPS location and
mapping works but maybe not directions.

Openvpn works fine, but doesn't cover the same scenarios as vpnc...

I've not seen vpnc for the FR yet. So I cross-compiled it a few minutes
ago (from svn) and it seems to run on my FR, but I've nothing handy to test
it against. If someone wants to do so, I stuffed the config and binaries
in a tarball at http://newkirk.us/om/vpnc.tar.gz - it depends on libgcrypt,
shouldn't need anything else. The only alterations required were
commenting out CC=gcc and ./makeman.pl in the makefile (no man on FR
anyway) and opkg-target install libgcrypt libgcrypt-dev.

Re: Distro?

Thanks for the great replies...
I flashed my FR to SHR today.
I had a few instances of it freezing during boot.
Then it seemed to be up, but I had 2 issues:

1. In Terminal, I get no keyboard.
(I guess that's my punishment for complaining
about not getting a full 101 keys by default. :-)

2. My usb setup script failed.
ifconfig returns this and more, but ping gets nothing.

usb0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 8e:a3:0c:ca:6d:a8
  inet addr:192.168.0.200 Bcast:0.0.0.0 Mask:255.255.255.0
  inet6 addr: fe80::8ca3:cff:feca:6da8/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1

Script is:
rot...@sata1:/opt/download/OpenMoko$ cat usbsetup
sudo iptables -A POSTROUTING -t nat -j MASQUERADE -s 192.168.0.0/24
sudo sysctl -w net.ipv4.ip_forward=1
sudo ip addr add 192.168.0.200/24 dev usb0
sudo ifconfig usb0 up
ifconfig usb0
ping -c 2 mok

When you're in the terminal, tap on the top shelf, then above the big X, tap
on the QWERTY

By default, your desktop PC has 192.168.0.200 and the FR has 192.168.0.202.
Try this entry in /etc/network/interfaces on the FR:

auto usb0
iface usb0 inet static
address 192.168.0.202
netmask 255.255.255.0
network 192.168.0.0
gateway 192.168.0.200
# some folks have the next line here enabled
# echo nameserver 192.168.0.200 /etc/resolv.conf
# still others may say: bullshit honey, we need a real nameserver in
here

and on your desktop PC in the very same file:

allow-hotplug usb0
iface usb0 inet static
address 192.168.0.200
netmask 255.255.255.0

Loading what

2009-02-02 Thread Seth Rothenberg
I thought of something that would give me a warm fuzzy feeling
Loading Terminal or Loading Settings

I happen to be running SHR right now, but I am sure
all distros could benefit with this silly thing, namely
Provide name of application being launched

Where would be a good place to suggest this?
(diy is an OK answer, but not this month :-)

Actually, along the same lines, it would be nice if FR
could give a bit of positive feedback sooner than
30 seconds after boot when I see openmoko
(Note, this is not unique to FR, the motoRAZR also does this,
but I have booted the FR more times in a few months
than I have booted the RAZR in 3 years.)

Thanks
Seth
