gcc cant find cc1, g++ cant find crt1.o

2008-08-01 Thread H. Rosmanith

hello,

I've installed gcc, g++ and binutils natively. However,
I cannot compile even a
void printf(char *); int main() { printf(220 helo herp\n); } (1)

First, cc or gcc cannot be found, there are only gcc directories,
but no gcc executable. However, there is a:

/opt/usr/bin/arm-angstrom-linux-gnueabi-gcc

but:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# /opt/usr/bin/arm-angstrom-linux-gnueabi-gcc -o helo
helo.c
arm-angstrom-linux-gnueabi-gcc: error trying to exec 'cc1': execvp: No such
file or directory

this doesnt happen because some PATH settings are wrong, but because
there's no cc1 binary in /opt.

Since I've also installed g++, cc1plus is present, in:
/opt/usr/libexec/gcc/arm-angstrom-linux-gnueabi/4.1.2/cc1plus

But this is not being used by gcc.

Using g++ helps. A bit at least, it doesnt complain about cc1, because
it's using cc1plus. But it still doesnt succeed, because it cant find crt1.o:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# /opt/usr/bin/arm-angstrom-linux-gnueabi-g++ -o helo
helo.c

/opt/usr/bin/../lib/gcc/arm-angstrom-linux-gnueabi/4.1.2/../../../../arm-angstrom-linux-gnueabi/bin/ld:
crt1.o: No such file: No such file or directory
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

The only crt* files are:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# find / | grep crt
/opt/usr/lib/gcc/arm-angstrom-linux-gnueabi/4.1.2/crtendS.o
/opt/usr/lib/gcc/arm-angstrom-linux-gnueabi/4.1.2/crtbeginS.o
/opt/usr/lib/gcc/arm-angstrom-linux-gnueabi/4.1.2/crtend.o
/opt/usr/lib/gcc/arm-angstrom-linux-gnueabi/4.1.2/crtbeginT.o
/opt/usr/lib/gcc/arm-angstrom-linux-gnueabi/4.1.2/crtbegin.o
/usr/share/curl/curl-ca-bundle.crt
/usr/share/terminfo/c/crt
/usr/share/terminfo/c/crt-vt220
/usr/share/tabset/stdcrt
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~#

Well ... long mail, short question: which packages do I need in order
to make gcc (and g++) work?

kind regards,
H. Rosmanith

(1) I'm prototyping printf() because  stdio.h isn't present, of course ;-)

Re: gcc cant find cc1, g++ cant find crt1.o

2008-08-01 Thread H. Rosmanith
There are a few *-symlinks packages you'll want. I believe it's
gcc-symlinks. Just do opkg list | grep symlink and install the
 relevant ones.

nice. works ... almost. the (only?) file which seems to me missing
right now is crt1.o. according to gentoo, crt1.o is part of glibc.
but on openmoko, I already have glibc installed, but still no crt1.o
there. is there some glibc-devel? I have not seen any. but there
surely is, - I also don't have /usr/include/*.h files, and they
should be out somewhere. do you know the name of the package?

Re: mixer settings for voice recording?

2008-07-31 Thread H. Rosmanith
I've created a wiki-account and put the alsa setting, which allow voice
recording/capturing from e.g. /dev/dsp, into my accounts page:
 http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/User:Herp

oops, I just noticed that 'ADC Capture Volume', control #2, was set to
a too low value (195). To get some result instantly (without shouting
at the neo), it's best to set it to 255, like:

control.2 {
comment.access 'read write'
comment.type INTEGER
comment.count 2
comment.range '0 - 255'
iface MIXER
name 'ADC Capture Volume'
value.0 255
value.1 255
}

H. Rosmanith

Re: mixer settings for voice recording?

2008-07-30 Thread H. Rosmanith

  e. I was going
to tabulate the controls, but haven't got to grips with the mediawiki table
markup yet. I'm open to suggestions!

I was unaware of the cool ALSA mapping, but tried to start a mapping here:
 http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Neo_alsamixer

Change it or nuke it as you please.

I've created a wiki-account and put the alsa setting, which allow voice
recording/capturing from e.g. /dev/dsp, into my accounts page:

use as you like.

Re: where's terminal in qemu / devel-rootfs?

2008-07-30 Thread H. Rosmanith

hello,

as a last experiment, I started qemu with the serial port bound
to a tcp port:

arm-softmmu/qemu-system-arm -M gta01 -m 130 -mtdblock \
openmoko/openmoko-flash.image -kernel openmoko/openmoko-kernel.bin \
-show-cursor -portrait -serial telnet:localhost:1200,serv

and hoped that a getty or something similar would pop up,
asking me to login: .

unfortunately, there's some software sending AT(Hayes) commands
to the serial port -- ET phone home :-

but no login :-(

Re: mixer settings for voice recording?

2008-07-29 Thread H. Rosmanith
Hello Andy,

Somebody in the thread at some point said:

 | So, what is required to make the dsp-device delive audio-data?
 |
 | Q: The hardware does support this, right?

 Yeah.

 | Q: Is it a audio-driver problem, e.g. the alsa-device-driver for the chip
 |doesnt support audio capturing?
 |
 | Q: Is it a problem with my mixer settings? If so, which are the correct
 |mixer settings?

I can't give you a straight answer on what to do, but here is the
 situation around it.

The normal audio routing for the microphone inside the WM8753 codec is
to bring it in on MIC2 port and then send it via an analogue path
around some scalers and mixers and switches and send it back out again
on MONO1 / MONO2 to the GSM chip.

In short it doesn't get delivered to the ADC in the Wolfson where you can
 pull it as normal PCM.

okay, this means normally the wm8753 is not configured to do this, but
you can configure it to make it work, right?

and if configured correctly, which is:
If the PGA and mux are configured, it should work OK.

then /dev/dsp will output PCM data?

One last consideration, the Mic is OFF unless you enabled MICBIAS signal
 to power it.

hm ... I dunno how to do this. In alsamixer, in the capture view, I see
several controls, like e.g. PCM, Mic1, Mic2, Capture. I've put them all
to 100% and unmuted them. Still there's no activity on /dev/dsp.
On the other hand, I don't see a MICBIAS control.

If it helps, I could copy the contents of /etc/asound.state into an email.

kind regards,
H. Rosmanith

woah, I finally got it to work. I change DAI Mode from DAI 0
to DAI 1 - and suddenly the dsp-device spits out tons o' data.

that was quite some trial and error, a real DAI hard.

by the way, when reading from dsp with od and changing the
