[pfSense Support] Developer howto?

2005-10-24 Thread Jeroen Geusebroek
Is there a document on how to help out with development?

I would like to contribute, but don't know how to setup a development
environment. I noticed the development iso, i guess that's a start, but
do the updates work with the development version?

I am a skilled PHP programmer, but FreeBSD is rather new to me.

Check the MTU setting in the interface tab. It defaults to 1500 AFAIK.

Why do the developers wrote this note in the last version? *Note: In/out

 I have these values currently: In/out packets 75222048/70844380 (282.08
 MB/3.65 GB).
If I take a pocket calculator, i simply divide the incoming packets /
1500 and this result by 1024. I get then 48.97 GB.
I dont understand, why it should not be possible to get this value
viewed in the Interface Status site.
If the counter wraps, so far i see it, the amount of packets must be
423120 instead of the above shown.

Packets vary in sizes. Not all packets are 1500, this is the maximum packet
size for this network architecture.

 Hi,

i think the information on the web do not reflect my inquiry but of
course i may be wrong. I would like to know how to upgrade my platform
 from 0.86.2 to 0.86.4.

Download the full update from the website.

Login to the web-gui and go to System/Manual update.
Enable firmware upload and upload the file you downloaded.

This is all! The FW will boot and you have new version.

well, your WAN didn't get an IP address (note it's all zeroes?) Does RR

Well what i think is interesting is that it did get the DNS servers
from DHCP. At least that's what i can deduce from the screenshot.

Could it be that this is fixed in the latest version? I no longer have

I tried this trick with the lastest version and it failes. The moment you set
the alias with ifconfig, dhclient stops working and all connections fail.

I used to have it running with m0n0wall without any problems.

[pfSense Support] Access ADSL modem on WAN port

2005-09-17 Thread Jeroen Geusebroek
Hi,

I have an DSL modem with a web interface from which i can get the status etc.
It only reacts to an IP adres in the same subnet (10.0.0.0/24).

Pfsense gets an IP using DHCP, but it is in a different range then the DSL modem
(while being on the same interface).

Is it possible to have 2 IP's on the WAN side? Dhcp Static 10.0.0.0/24?

I've tried using virtual ip addresses but that doesn't seem to work, unless
i'm doing something wrong.

The ideal situation would be to have 2 ip addresses and tell outbound NAT
to use IP adress X for 10.0.0.0/24 and IP address Y for the rest of
the internet.

Is this possible with pfsense?

You might be able to create a proxy arp address on that interface (virtual

Thanks for the reply; that's exactly what i tried, but it doesn't seem to work.
