Re: pidgin/Video and VNC

Hi,

Brad Johnson schrieb:
How did you even get Pidgin to work for VoIP and video? I thought Pidgin
 didn't support that yet.
Since 2.6.1 there is Voice and Video available for XMPP (Jabber). It's
at an early state and (afaik) needs compiling from source with the right
options and the right libraries at the right place.

See [0] for more details.

Hi
I've just purchased a Ubisurfer netbook with Pidgin pre-installed, but every
time I try to connect I get a error message stating Connection error from

I have checked the settings and as far I know everything is correct. Is there a
problem with the netbook or have I forgotton to do something?
Please advice

Why pidgin 2.6 force a sasl authentication when the configuration ask
 for a plaintext authentication.
It works well with tkabber and pidgin 2.6.

 Regards

I'm not entirely sure what the issue is here.

If the server advertises SSL support, Pidgin will attempt to upgrade the
connection to SSL even if you do not have Require SSL/TLS checked (which
you do have checked). I think you're referring to the Allow plaintext
auth over unencrypted streams option, which *only* enters into the
equation if the server does not offer SSL and all other mechanisms besides
SASL PLAIN fail (or are not offered...or IQ Auth is in use).
The server provides SSL for the transport but not any SASL mechanism
fo authentication. The only authentication mechanism available is
plain text.
This configuration is working with pidgin 2.5 (ubuntu jaunty).

The log snippets you've pasted indicate that the server simply isn't
offering a valid mechanism that Pidgin knows how to authenticate with
(typically servers offer PLAIN or DIGEST-MD5).

Could you include full (unedited) logs of the entire connection process as
well as the error messages Pidgin displays, please? If you'd like, you may
 email them to me directly.
Here comes the logs.

Thanks to your attention.

Pidgin always tries SASL authentication if it's offered. There is a
SASL PLAIN mechanism, though the server is not offering it. Legacy IQ
Authentication is what Pidgin falls back to after trying SASL, and
from your log it *looks* like it's succeeding (at least, the server
returns a positive result). If you specify a resource in the account
settings, does it work properly? Could you attach a debug log from
Pidgin 2.6 connecting?

We're still having the same problem we were before, I tried 2.6.2 and it
still has the same problems we were having after upgrading libpurple on
2.6.1. It fixed the hang on login, but we still have the server close the

jabberd version 2 on FreeBSD, and it's been fine through GAIM and every
previous version of pidgin. We never had a problem until 2.6.1.

王shuo-ming, have you tried modifying your accounts settings and
changing the client version on the advanced tab to QQ2008?

Mailing list replies

2009-09-08 Thread Mark Doliner
Just a few tips:
* Users do not have to be subscribed to this mailing list in order to
post to it. When replying to a user's email please ensure the user's
email address is listed in the To field.
* Replies to this mailing list by default go to the user who sent the
email. We've talked about this behavior in the past and do not plan
on changing it.
* You're encouraged to use Reply All or Reply List for the
majority of your responses so that future generations of Pidgin users
can benefit from your knowledge being indexed forever in Google.
However, it may make sense for you to email the user only when sending
private information, sending off-topic information, if the user is
taking a private poll, etc.

If you specify a resource in the account settings, does it work? The
resource can be anything you want; it's meant to identify a specific
connection.

Why pidgin 2.6 force a sasl authentication when the
configuration ask for a plaintext authentication. It works
well with tkabber and pidgin 2.6.
Pidgin always tries SASL authentication if it's offered. There is a
SASL PLAIN mechanism, though the server is not offering it. Legacy
IQ Authentication is what Pidgin falls back to after trying SASL,
and from your log it *looks* like it's succeeding (at least, the
server returns a positive result). If you specify a resource in the
account settings, does it work properly? Could you attach a debug
  log from Pidgin 2.6 connecting?
