Re: AIM support

2017-02-28 Thread Wade Smart
I said it because my friend who has worked for aol
support through various buyouts, informed us that
that was the future road map.

Uh, this is completely untrue, and I don't know why you would say this.

First, you can connect to AIM, the message sets a deadline for *march*
28. So it will work for a month at least.

Second, and answering the original question, this will be fixed in
pidgin 2.12.0, which will be released soon (next week, ideally)

We've been in contact with AOL for the last few months to coordinate
an update of some client identifiers to newer values. But AIM isn't
going away.

Right. You can no longer connect to Aim.
On another note - while AOL is not going away,
there has been talk internally of doing away with it.

AIM support

2017-02-28 Thread marny.a.a
Hi there,

Today, when logging into pidgin I got this message:

(12:56:08 PM) AOL System Msg: Hello. Effective 3/28, we will no longer support
connections to the AIM network via this method. If you wish to use the free
consumer AIM product, we invite you to visit www.aim.com for more information.

Does that mean Pidgin will no longer be able to log into AIM? Can you shed any
light?

Thank you
Marny

AOL (AIM) support ending on older chat client

2016-02-19 Thread Mike Hood
Today we are seeing older chat clients with aim messages about support ending
in March. I have not seen this on pidgin... does that mean pidgin isn't
affected by this change?
