Help with pidgin

2017-08-29 Thread Dunia Murillo
Hello Pidgin Team!

I am having trouble with the pidgin set up, as most of my contacts appear as
offline all the time.

I tried to delete it and re-install it but the problem persists.

Also, by trying to fix this, I have changed the color, letter set up and don't
know how to correct this.

I appreciate your help very much and look forward to your instructions.

Best Regards,

Dunia

Contact your IT department and ask for a copy of the root certificate
and install it for Pidgin. If they are recommending Pidgin, they should
be able to provide information on how to install it, or even do it for
you. (Disabling this check is unlikely to be acceptable to your IT people.)

Otherwise, this may help, once you have the certificate from the IT
department: http://cl0secall.net/post/425.

My OS version is Windows Xp sp3, using Pidgin version 2.7.6.
Just the name of the file, and the folder it is located within would be

Help with Pidgin Favourites.

2010-12-17 Thread Neil Denham
Is there some way to have my favourite contacts in a group, without removing

On the client I can create a group called 'Favourites', but I can't add a

Currently my workaround is to set 'Buddies Sort Buddies By recent log
activity' in the buddy list, and then move the Open Fire group (which contains
all contacts) to the top of the group list.

If the protocol in question supports having a buddy in more than one group
(I know XMPP does this, and I believe some others do) then you should
simply be able to add the person to the new group in pidgin a second time
to do this.

Short of that a plugin could be written to create a fake Favorites group
with dummy entries for the favorite buddies which aren't actually stored
on the server, etc.

Re: Help on Pidgin defect

2010-11-03 Thread Lorenzo Paglialonga
Dear all,
any chance to fix the MSN HTTP method bugs (tracked in tickets #3126 and
#7325)?

I'm very happy to see the 2.7.5 available, but unfortunately there's no
milestone set for the two tickets..

Without these fixes, I'm not able to use pidgin from my company.. And this
affects all the other users who uses Pidgin with a proxy which allows HTTP
method only..

 Please let me know..

Cheers,
Lorenzo

 Dear all,
I'm a very happy Pidgin user and first of all I want to thank you for all
the time you spent on this project to allow us to use this excellent IM
 client.

I'm dropping you this email to ask for your help for a Pidgin defect. In
fact on this month I move to another company and I found in this new company
MSN is able to work only though HTTP method.

From the bug track I found there are 2 defects (Ticket #3126 and Ticket
#7325) concerned with my trouble and assigned to khc; unfortunately there is
 no milestone set for them.

For this reason I was forced to use Windows Live Messenger ( :-( ), even if
I really like very much Pidgin..

My question is: according with the time you think to work on Pidgin, do you
think you'll be able to fix this defect in the few next releases?

From the roadmap on the Pidgin web site I see neither in the version 2.7.2
nor in the 2.8 nor in the 3.0 the fix for this bug is planned..

I'm sorry to disturb you and I hope you'll be able to help me..

Thank you again for your huge effort on Pidgin.

 Cheers,
 Lorenzo

Yes, you can.

In the bottom right of the buddy list, there is a buddy icon selector
that will apply to all accounts that support buddy icons.

You can also specify the buddy icon individually for specific accounts
in the Modify Account dialog.

In the case that several visitors seek to chat at the same time while my

Something like this is probably possible to do with a plugin - i'm not
aware of an existing plugin that would do it. It is also possible
that your Olark server can do this. Buddy Pounces are unrelated.

I use Pidgin to communicate with any visitor to my website.  Are all
visitors automatically my Buddies?  I need to be buddies with anyone who
signs in to my website.  Is this possible?  Without knowing who they are
 beforehand.

This is something you should seek support from Olark for - Pidgin is
just a client and has no ability to integrate with your website.

Can I Buddy Pounce on any visitor to my website automatically?  To configure
this, what would I input for “Account” and “Buddy name” again, if I do not
know them beforehand (as in question 2 above).

No, Buddy Pounces are for specific users that are already in your buddy list.

Should I be able to track a visitor to my website?  To know which page of my
website he visiting at one moment or another? How can I do this?

This is not related to Pidgin at all.

HELP WITH PIDGIN

I'm unfamiliar with Olark, but many of these questions are better aimed
at them, especially as it looks like it's a for-pay service.

 * *

1. *In the case that several visitors seek to chat at the same time

pounce have something to do with this issue?*

It depends on how Olark exposes visitors to the operator, but an
auto-reply message might work (you'd want to set it to Auto-reply when
away). I don't recall the exact specifics of how that setting
interacts with an *on-going* conversation (i.e. the active one), and how
it works with XMPP (which does not have protocol-level auto-reply
messages), so you'd want to experiment with it.

2. *I use Pidgin to communicate with any visitor to my website. Are
all visitors automatically my Buddies? I need to be buddies with
anyone who signs in to my website. Is this possible? Without
   knowing who they are beforehand.*

This is an Olark-specific question.

3. *Can I Buddy Pounce on any visitor to my website automatically?
To configure this, what would I input for “Account” and “Buddy
name” again, if I do not know them beforehand (as in question 2
   above).*

Probably not. Pounces are typically tied to a specific user, not a
group. There may be a plugin or two (look at the ThirdPartyPlugins page
on Pidgin's development wiki) that allow you to have some sort of
bounce functionality per-group, though.

4. *Should I be able to track a visitor to my website? To know which
page of my website he visiting at one moment or another? How can I
   do this?*

This is an Olark-specific question.

You probably meant to say that you use MSN. Microsoft don't support
open source clients. They changed the protocol. You need to install
Pidgin 2.6.4 to catch up.

If the problem is not with MSN, you are going to have to tell us more.

A better subject would have been: 'Failed to connect to server when
using MSN'.

HELP with Pidgin

2009-12-16 Thread Jessica Poutiainen

Hi,

can You please tell me why my Pidgin Messenger isn't working? I tried to log in
but it's not letting me in whether how many times I try or change the settings.
Is there some problem with Pidgin or is it just my computer?

It just says : the server does not support the protocol

You need to upgrade to a newer version of Pidgin; I suggest the latest
version (2.6.4).

The best people to ask this question of are the IT department of your
employers. If it turns out that Pidgin isn't an approved client, they
should, at least be able to tell you the technical details of the
service they expect you to use, which will make it possible to try and
answer your question.

We would may also need to know the version of Pidgin and the operating
system on which you are using it.

I do remember that there is a problem with some misconfigured servers
which are providing an invalid SSL certificate (expired?).

We are also likely to want you to cut and paste the Pidgin debug log (as
text) and send it to this list.

Help with Pidgin Messenger

2009-09-20 Thread Josaphina Sluik

Hello, my name is Josaphina Sluik, and I have a question for you.

Is there any possible way I could talk to one person, and no one else online
knows that I'm actually online at all? I've been trying to get this done, due
to having an over eager friend that likes talking every five minutes, and I
would like to talk to one person in particular. The times I've tried talking
with people online while under the invisible status have ended up with the
program telling me that if I wish to talk to people, then to change my status
to active. I'd understand if it's not able to be done, but if there is any
possible way, then I'd gladly like to know =)

Thank you

Josaphina Sluik

I assume that the protocol you're using is MSN, in which case,
upgrading to the latest version (2.6.2) will allow you talk to people
while you're invisible.

Help with Pidgin graphics

2009-02-03 Thread susanviolet
Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help me. I've searched the help pages on the website,
and I can't seem to find any answers. I upgraded to the newest version of
Pidgin, as well as changed some administration profiles around on Windows
(XP). Now, when I run Pidgin, none of my graphics are visible - the toolbar
on the right corner shows a white box with a red X, as does all my buddies,
my status, my avatar. And in the toolbar in Pidgin, there are icons missing
in the dropdowns as well. I tried locating the folders on my C: drive, but
I don't really know what I'm looking for, and when I uninstall and reinstall
Pidgin the icons are still missing.

Any help offered would be much appreciated!!

Thank you so much,

Susan

It sounds like your GTK+ runtime is messed up.

Try uninstalling the GTK+ runtime and reinstalling it. A standalone
GTK+ runtime installer is available from the downloads section of
pidgin's sourceforge site (http://sf.net/projects/pidgin).
