Re: Pidgin crashing need some help

2011-10-07 Thread Ethan Blanton
Matthew McCarter spake unto us the following wisdom:
When using pidgin and OTR activated, when I initially begin chat, the
program is causing the other client to crash. After the crash, we can
chat just fine, with no interference. Have latest build installed. Any
 advice or help greatly appreciated.

 Pidgin 2.10.0 (libpurple 2.10.0)
 93051ef2d941be32785c5fbb788ae3b0a0935b4d

The *other* client is crashing, or Pidgin is crashing? What protocol
is this? Does it go away when you disable OTR?

If the other client is crashing, there's nothing we can do about that.
If Pidgin is crashing, we might be able to do something.

Sorry, we are both using Pidgin, latest version. If it matters, he's
on some ver of Linux, and I'm on Win 7. Seems to only crash, when
initially creating a link between us, after crash works fine. I also
switch pcs during the day, work, then back home, and it's when
switching, and after inital crash we notice it. Doesn't happen on my
end, just his

OK, that answered some of my questions. Now, please address the rest:

Additionally, it would be helpful if your friend got us a backtrace.

Okay, will do. In the meantime, we've both put on the debugger to have
some useful info for ya.

He'll need to have installed the appropriate debug or debuginfo
packages for his distro or the backtraces will be completely useless.
