support@pidgin.im: FYI Jared's email from earlier today didn't seem to
make it to this list, but feel free to reply to this thread with any
thoughts/questions.

Hi Jared! From what I can tell from your image, yes, that looks fine,
feel free to go ahead and print. For a more detailed response, my
original response still applies. See the we don't have a formal
policy paragraph at
https://pidgin.im/pipermail/support/2013-April/026581.html

Regarding donations to Instant Messaging Freedom, Inc., for small
denominations feel free to use the PayPal donate button at
https://imfreedom.org/donate.php . If the shirt becomes popular and
you'll be potentially donating a large denomination (say, greater than
100 USD), it might be nice if you could pay us for large batches via a
standard US check mailed to our treasurer (Ethan Blanton), just so we
can avoid the small Pay Pal transaction percentage. Feel free to email
us off-list if you have high volume and you're in favor of the extra
hassle (vice.presid...@imfreedom.org and treasu...@imfreedom.org)

Thanks, and good luck!

T-Shirts, and due to the constraints put in place by my day job, printing
t-shirts got put on the back burner for a while. Things have calmed down at
work, and I've found time to resume the project, and that's why I'm writing!

I'd like to confirm that I can go ahead and print this on a shirt --

Shirts will sell in the $14.99-$17.99 range. I'm still working on pricing,
but $5 from each sale will go to Instant Messaging Freedom, Inc., and you
originally suggested, and this amount will be tax deductible to US-based
 customers.

Let me know if I can go ahead and print! Recently, LibreOffice / The
Document Foundation gave me permission to print for them, and I've attached
a sample. All shirts start out as plain white shirts and are custom dyed
to... well, any color that looks good.

Thanks for making some awesome software!

 Best,
 Jared

2015-01-07 Thread Jared Contrascere
Thanks for clarifying and for the additional information. I appreciate
it! I'll post some test-run shirts shortly, and as of now, the website
is being worked on. It looks like it will launch with LibreOffice,
Inkscape, and Pidgin shirts at some point this year.

All the best!

We don't have a formal policy for this. Our usual response is:
It's totally fine for you to use the Pidgin name and logo to represent
us and our project. If you want to make a shirt with a list of open
source mascots, it's fine for you to include us and use our images.
If you want to write a news story about us, feel free to use our
stylized Pidgin text and the pigeon mascot.

It is not ok to use the branding to represent something else. For
example, it would not be ok to start a car company and use an image of
our pigeon as your company logo. It would not be ok to create a
confusingly similar piece of software and name it Pidgin.

I'm creating t-shirts to promote and fundraise for open source
projects, and I'd like to do this for Pidgin if it's permissible.

Sounds great to me! Good luck!

We don't really need money, but if you feel a need to donate you can
give money to Instant Messaging Freedom, Inc. It's a USA registered
501(c)(3) non-profit organization that assists us with this like this.

Hi Mark,

What about offering them to the Pidgin's community, I'd need size L for
my wife and XXL for me. Would be a nice gift to my wife :-)

Pidgin policy on logo usage.

Good evening,
