And what was the original issue? I very seldom open mails which just say
as Subject 'pidgin' or 'I have a problem'.

And btw: If you reply to some mail, the lines of the original
mail should start with "> " as you see above. If your mail user agent is
not capable doing this for you on the fly, just use another one or even another
operating system. It looks like your are using Microsoft software, so
ask or blame them for that.

Re: Fw: Pidgin Help

2014-01-09 Thread Tres Finocchiaro
@Jennifer,

XMPP is normal in this case.

Your may have something blocking your connection.

Can you try this:

   1. Accounts, Manage Accounts
   2. Modify
   3. Advanced
   4. Change Connect Port to 80
   5. Save
   6. Uncheck it and recheck the checkbox

This has helped me in the past when having problems connecting to Google
Talk behind a firewall or proxy.

It won't make a difference. Membership is not a prerequisite to post to this
list, and the most common place for people to find the list's address is the
About box, which already has a blurb for Oracle employees that is promptly
ignored.

Is the list software clueful enough that it could be configured to start
requiring subscriptions for @oracle.com posts, and to return a blurb
about what they're doing wrong, and how to subscribe if needed?

Sure, they'll ignore it, but they ignore what they're told here anyway,
at least it would automate the responses. I'm sure at least some will
follow the link to subscribe and then whine about all the list traffic,
but most will probably get frustrated and attack the problem internally
before they hit the list.

You need to contact Oracle's internal support department. No-one on
this public peer support list knows anything about Oracle's internal
instant messaging infrastructure, and on-one has administrator access
to either your PC or to any servers that you are likely to be using.

There are lots of programs that tie into the API for the Skype client, but
there are no programs that I'm aware of that actually implement the Skype
protocol.

Just reinstall Pidgin and choose the English dictionary during the
installation process.

Alternatively, the FAQ
(http://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/Installing%20Pidgin#IsthereawaytoinstallSpell-checkingsupportAspellmanually)
covers how to install the dictionary manually.
