Create a new profile and see if it still happens. If not, post back

profile to the new one.

I have Windows 10 and Windows 7. Doesn't happen under Windows 7
SeaMonkey version 2.38 or 2.39. It does happen under Windows 10
though.

It has something to do with the message's "text encoding".
Text size depends on whether the message is using Unicode or
something else like Western.

I don't know how to fix this.

it is trying but can not. This however, works in the dreaded IE browser.
I have tried restarting SM in safe mode and that does not help.

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

Edit | Preferences | Appearance | Fonts

If you look closely, you'll see that you can set font sizes and minimum
values independently for different encodings. So if Western is set to 16
with a minimum of 12 but Unicode is set to 12 with no minimum, you'll
get different results depending on the encoding.

True, but that wasn't the OP's issue. He said "It has something to do
with the message's 'text encoding.' Text size depends on whether the
message is using Unicode or something else like Western."

At the top of the dialog, you can pull down the encoding from the button
next to "Fonts for:" and you'll find that yes, you can set different
sizes for different encodings. I'll wager if the OP sets the same sizes
for Western and Unicode, the discrepancy will vanish.

I put there "fr-classic"(the first choice) and ALWAYS this is
changed by "fr-reform"(the last choice)

How can I have ONLY fr-classic positioned ?

Note 1:
I have the standard dictionary that came with my SM (English-US) who
give only one choice: English United States
but with the added french dictionary
"dictionnaires_francais-5.4.1-sm+tb+fx.xpi" we have:

- fr-classic
- fr-classic-reform
- fr-modern
- fr-reform

Thanks for all comments. They were useful for me to create a well

Because I put "fr-classic"(the first choice) and ALWAYS this is
changed by "fr-reform"(the last choice) - My Work-Around detoured my
problem.

[WORK-AROUND]
I just found a viable work-around for my problem - so a don't care about a
solution near 2075 :-)
You just have to go into the directory:
C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\Profiles\.default\extensions\fr-dicolle...@dictionaries.addons.mozilla.org
\dictionaries\

and swap the files:
- fr-classic.aff - fr-reform.aff
and
- fr-classic.dic - fr-reform.dic

You could try setting a minimum font size. I found that to be effective.

I can set a preferred font-size for proportional fonts and for monospace
fonts but not for each different font-family (serif, sans-serif,
cursive, and fantasy). I can also set a minimum font-size globally but
without distinguishing proportional and monospace.

The preferred font-size is used where the Web page or message does not
include a font-size. The minimum font-size is applied where a eb page
or message does specify a font-size smaller than my minimum.
