Random changes can be caused by a failing disc drive or (much less
likely) a failing memory. Other causes can be malware or conflicting
extensions.

I suggest you try the following sequence.

1. Run your anti-virus application to do a complete scan of your system
(memory and disc). If malware is indeed found, delete it.

2. Run SeaMonkey in Safe Mode for an extended period. If the problem
does not occur, run SeaMonkey in normal mode for an extended period but
with half of your extensions disabled.
a. If the problem does not occur, enable half of the disabled
extensions. Repeat until the problem occurs, at which point you can
isolate which extensions contribute to the problem. You will then have
to desable or remove at least one of the offenders.
b. If the problem occurs in Safe Mode, it is NOT caused by any
extension conflict.

3. Open the Properties window for your hard drive. Select the Tools
tab. Select the Check Now button. Check both checkboxes. Select the
Start button. This will likely require you to reboot Windows. If you
purge the events in the Windows Event Viewer, you will easily see if
there were any disc errors detected. The Event Viewer is reached via
[Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer]; under Windows
Logs, open each file of logs, right-click, and select Clear Log. After
the disc is scanned, repeat going to the Event Viewer; I think the
results should appear in the Application log.

4. Go to and get the Memtest tool to test
your PC's memory. This will require creating a self-loading CD or flash
stick and also require changing your boot setup. To reach your boot
setup menu, you must press function key F2 while doing a cold or warm
boot. Remember to record on paper what changes you make to your setup
so that you can later undo them. Run the tool through at least one full
cycle.

Wow ! That is a thorough detective scenario !

BTW - as to your signature thing.WHY do Dems examine every tiny
detail of

what Trump does and had let Obama go on his merry way w/o even the slightest
inquiry of his obviously questionable actions (Clinton's also) ? Give

Well that is weird. The code that does that is in the userChrome.css

noted in the info I gave you about changing the appearance of SM. Here
if I change the mail/news layout the tab visual changes I have are

Something is either making SM "lose" the userChrome.css file if your

That fixed it with the following steps;

1: Backup Mozilla folder
2: Enter SM in Safemode and check

3. Log into pacemakerclub.com.

If it's ignoring the click but denying access, then you're actually
logged out. Ignore its treatment of the click and move on with your life.

An easy test is to try to do something you can only do if logged in. If

Yes. I happen to prefer adding the lines to user.js so that I can
insert a comment (a line beginning with //) to remind me why I did it.
Using about:config does not allow for commenting changes.

My suggestion in your case illustrates my use of comments. I originally
changed the timeout preference to 210. While it reduced the number of
instances of timeouts with a newsgroup server, it did not eliminate
them. I was then advised to block IPv6, which completely resolved the
problem. I was able to see my prior change in timeouts. Not only did I
remove that from user.js, but I also had the name of the preference
variable in order to reset it via about:config.

Got it, thanks - wanted to make sure there wasn't some other drawback if I used
about:config.

Thanks for this suggestion. I've had no problems sending emails with this
preference set at 210, so I'm declaring victory and moving on to the next
conundrum!
