I've been not advertising Firefox for more years than I can remember, with the
exception of 5 general.useragent.override.* settings, where Firefox and Windows
(instead of Linux) are advertised, and SeaMonkey is not.

Thanks.  What is this "v2.49.4"?  I'm using 2.48 for Windows... when I
click on "Check on Update" from the Help menu, it tells me I have the
latest update...

As noted elsewhere in this thread, automatic update checks are broken.
Go to the SeaMonkey home page and you'll see that 2.49.4 is the latest
release.

Mozilla is completely nuts...

now they will shutdown their IRC servers, because
"In short, it’s no longer practical or responsible for us to keep that forum
alive."

http://exple.tive.org/blarg/2019/04/26/synchronous-text/

they have millions of $$$, morons...
next: shutdown newsgroups?

tell me where I can help, 20+ years using SM, Mozilla Suite, Netscape
C/C++/Web

ciao..

SeaMonkey "Check for Updates" functionality is broken :(
The last official release is 2.49.4 - get it here
  https://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/
and the not-quite-official-but-has-some-fixes release is here
  https://www.wg9s.com/comm-esr/

I haven't been keeping up, so I don't know how good the wg9s.com 2.53
or 2.57 releases are.

Normally I'd say bin the site until the backer learns how to make one
that works, but this looks like something people might need.

Why, yes--it is.

Does the site work apart from the notice?

If so, some config on your side would avoid the notice. For instance
user CSS like this

  .dv-unsupported-browsers {
display: none;
  }
would hide the notice, or user JS like this

  for (let t of document.querySelectorAll('.dv-unsupported-browsers')) {
  t.remove();
  }
would delete it.

An extension such as Stylish helps to apply user CSS. A NoScript
surrogate helps to apply user JS to specific sites.

Or change the version of Firefox that you're spoofing to a later one?

Uh, no. I'm using 2.48. When I use "Check for Updates" I'm told that

You are probably true ...but it's a pity that SM modify the

I think that i found the solution - using about:config I do a
search for 99 and I found the "msgcompose.text_color"
variable with "user set" string at "#99"

Uh, how is "#99" gray? Looks blue to me.

YES, You are true. I remember now that I change the text I wrote
to blue.

So this is not my problem.
Therefore the problem is still open.
How to avoid the lighter font the signature ? I prefer a solid
black.
With text in blue and signature in black THIS indicate also to
the recipient that it is a signature and not part of the message.

How do you know what the recipient's Display settings are?

Just because it looks pretty to you in the Composition window,
doesn't mean the recipient will see it that way.

My signature text is black by default when composing a message
like this one. Lighter when I view it.

I just discovered the solution for my request:
I have inserted in my HTML signature after the  first ""  part
a style tag as you can see in the beginning of my HTML signature file:

<< rest of the html page >>

And the signature is not Lighter anymore.

I have found this info on this web page:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Signature_display_color

Great! But I don't see a signature in your post so can't tell if I
would see it in black or lighter.

What do I do if it is black and annoys me because I want to see it
lighter?

You cannot see nothing here because I did not insert a signature.
Effectively, you cannot see lighter. Without my modification ... ONLY
Thunderbird,SeaMonkey and other mozilla mail readers see the
signature lighter. Other mail readers see the signature in non-lighter.
Therefore with my modification ALL mail readers see the signature
IDENTICALLY.
Are you interested that I send a mail, in your mailbox with my
signature lighter and another with non-ligther ? Or did you prefer
that i do it in the "mozilla.test" newsgroup ?

mozilla.test would be best.

Just done, normally you must see the difference.
