Only a few of these types of messages get through for me, now that I've
included the majority of the NNTP-Posting-Host designations in my Mozilla
Newsgroups global killfile. I don't recall if there is an active abuse
department for the Moz groups, given that the protocol is fading as far as use
these days...

Not much of a help, but maybe someone else with more knowledge can chime in,
here.

More insanity: I filled a cart at https://www.jackssmallengines.com/ in ESR52,
but
got no reaction from any mouse click anywhere in the cart, and no kind of
warning
about unsupported browser. I redid my order in 2.49.4 and was able to complete
my
purchase.

For good measure for next time in sm.next I added:
general.useragent.override.jackssmallengines.com
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:66.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/66.0

I do find it amusing that there is a site that will accept Seamonkey,
but only if it's not advertising itself as Firefox compatible.

Thinking along these lines, could it be that the site/s detects the FF52
in the Useragent string and realises that that is an ollddd
version of FF so the site thinks it cannot present its site optimised
for an 'up-to-date' browser, so complains??

I think that's what's happening. As soon as the script sees Firefox 52,
it throws up the warning for an unsupported browser and download links
to current versions of Chrome and Firefox (and others).

At the far right of the Download Manager window in the same line as Name
and just under the Clear List button, you should see a strange icon.
Select that icon. In the resulting pull-down menu, select Source to
place a checkmark there.

Why then is his administration trying to prevent Congress from
