Re: How to access my AOL mail account using SeaMonkey.

2020-05-03 Thread Frog

On 4/29/2020 7:41 PM, Frog wrote:

I have attempted to replace my Verizon email account with an AOL email
account on SeaMonkey without success.  At the moment, I can only access
web pages using SeaMonkey...my access to this support group is
accessible only thru Thunderbird. I have tried every combination of
settings that I have read about and nothing makes a connection to AOL
via SeaMonkey.  Can someone point me or give me simple directions for
how to access my AOL messages on SeaMonkey?

Would it be easier for me to abandon SeaMonkey and and move to have my
AOL email delivered to Thunderbird?  If so, I will need simple-to-
follow instructions as to how to make that happen.

My operating system is Windows 10 and my SeaMonkey version is version
2.53.1

Please help me with simple-to-follow instructions.

Frog

I'm almost happy at the moment...I can receive my email messages on
SeaMonkey. I still don't know what made this happen...unless it was a
mistake I made while looking at "Preferences" in SeaMonkey. I found
under "Preferences" three squares...one with Mail, another with News,
and the third with Feed printed on them. Two of these boxes (Mail and
Feeds) were grayed out and only News had a white background. I said to
myself...voila, I need to find a way to make Mail have a background. I
never found a way to make the Mail block turn white, so I started down a
very dangerous path of experimenting. I decided to click the News block
and then I got a message asking if I was sure I wanted to take this
action...after some hard thinking, I decided to say yes. I was then
shaking like a leaf in the wind but ultimately decided to attempt to
download my (AOL) mail on SeaMonkey...would you believe my messages
started to download immediately after clicking the download button.

I next decided to check my newsgroup messages...they were there and new
messages were downloaded. One problem here that was not present in my
mail arena is the fact that I still can't open my news group
messages...I only see message headings and can't open the messages to
see the message text. Without seeing the message text I don't know what
the message is all about and I need the message to be open in order to
send a response to that message. I will continue to look for a fix for
this problem. (((Question: Is it better for me to open a new item in
the newsgroup for this problem?)))

Needless to say I am a happy person right now, and I can send/receive
email messages via SeaMonkey...able to receive newsgroup traffic on
SeaMonkey but not able to open the message or respond to the message on
SeaMonkey...and I can continue to visit web pages on SeaMonkey. All of
this would not have been possible without the help all of you sent my
way...you are all to be commended for what you do to help other people.
My thanks for you help is beyond words to express.

I also retained my u...@verizon.net address.

All was working without any problems on my computer (SeaMonkey
software) until very recently. I'm not sure if my computer was the
cause of my problems or whether Verizon or AOL had a hand in causing
my problems...whatever the cause, I now have a work around that
involves three software packages (Thunderbird, AOL, and SeaMonkey) to
do what I was doing on SeaMonkey alone.  Any settings in your account
or profile (that you are willing to share with me) may help me to
return to some sanity on my computer.  No, I am not seeking any
personal information, such as usernames or passwords, in my seeking

Please note that I had a 6.5 hour virus/malware scan of my computer
and no problems were found.  I then got in touch with my virus scan
people for help and they had me send the results of my scan to them
for further review...the review did not turn up any problems.  Thus,
I don't think the problem that put me in this mess was my
computer...I believe it had something to do with either Verizon or AOL.

It was good to hear from you and thanks for letting me know that I
was not alone when I made the decision to keep my Verizon email address.

Thanks Mr. ED for the settings you sent my way.  I had only one change

SNPT...Server Name was smtp.aol.com vs smpt.verizon.net

After making the fix, I then attempted to check my mail and I received

processing is complete to get messages.

smtp.verizon.net is the server name for sending mail.

pop.verizon.net is the server for receiving mail.

I just setup my Verizon account in SeaMonkey 2.52.2.

Once I entered the email address, server name (pop.verizon.net) and port
number (995) I had to open the accounts settings and change the accounts
security settings.

Connection security: SSL/TLS
Authentication method: Normal password.

Then I attempted to get messages, was asked for my password, entered it
into the dialog window, clicked "Next" and received my emails.

Hope that helps.

At the changeover time I just ignored all the messges about

No. NSS is no longer backwoard compatible. We need to soon put a
hard block in to go thru 2.53.1 to .3 first.

So the best way is :
- pass from 2.49.1 to 2.53.3 first then

yes for now.

- pass from 2.53.3 to 2.57

yes for later. 2.57 is useless other than for testing right now. We
don't have an ETA.

FRG
Thank you. So I will just store the SM installer .exe of  2.53.3 and not
use it until the release of the 2.57.

At that time, having stored 2.53.3 and 2.57 I will:

- uninstall 2.49.1
- install 2.53.3 and run  just upgrade mu profile.
- uninstall immediately 2.53.3
- install 2.57 ... and use it
